Anne-Marie Duff’s new BBC drama with Rose Ayling-Ellis has been hailed as “brilliant” by fans.
Reunion is a show with two languages – British Sign Language (BSL) and spoken English. It tells the story of deaf former convict Daniel Brennan, played by Matthew Gurney, as he embarks on a quest to uncover the facts behind his imprisonment ten years prior.
In this production, Duff takes on the role of Christine, and Ayling-Ellis portrays her daughter Miri. Their lives have been negatively impacted by Brennan’s actions. In addition, Eddie Marsan from the movie Back to Black is cast as Stephen, Christine’s boyfriend.
After the debut of Reunion on BBC One last night, Ayling-Ellis posted a set of backstage images on Instagram.
Many spectators swiftly expressed their opinions about the show in the comment area, praising “Reunion” as “outstanding” and “excellent.

One viewer commented, “I watched the initial episode last night and it was fantastic,” while another exclaimed, “I adored the first installment; it’s already got me captivated!
A third commented, “The blend of spoken words and sign language was fantastic, and the performances were excellent by all.
As a passionate spectator, I must say that this show, Reunion, is simply outstanding! And as a fellow member of the deaf community, I’m thoroughly enjoying it. It’s even helping me refresh my British Sign Language skills!

As a gamer, I can attest that Reunion, in my playthrough, truly showcases the remarkable talent of its creator, William Mager. Every instant of gameplay seems to breathe with his unique perspective as a deaf individual, making it an exceptional and immersive experience.
By the finale of this four-act saga, the poignant phrases echoing throughout will leave an indelible mark on me: “There’s no one to put their signature where mine should be.
While talking to Digital Spy about her experience learning British Sign Language (BSL) and working on the four-part thriller, Duff expressed, “It felt like a precious gift. I was able to learn this stunning language and understand how to communicate with people, sharing stories that could potentially influence even one person’s perspective. And if it does, it’s simply invaluable.
Reunion is available to watch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
