Doctor Who season 15 named “fun” yet “predictable” in first reactions ahead of its highly-anticipated return
The opening episode of Doctor Who‘s 15th season is being described as both “entertaining” and “unsurprising” before its much-awaited comeback.
On this coming Saturday (April 12), the science fiction series from BBC resumes its broadcast. The Doctor, portrayed by Ncuti Gatwa, and companion Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday, are continuing their interstellar voyage. They encounter a new character named Belinda ‘Bel’ Chandra, played by Varada Sethu, along their way.
In the opening episode titled ‘The Robot Revolution’, our Time Lord character finds themselves embroiled in a thrilling quest, aiming to save Bel who’s been abducted and transported to a planet bearing her very name as its dominant theme.

The Times
This hour-long TV show is filled with amusing speed, typical of Davies’ humor, as well as delightful twists that suggest he still dreams of being whisked off by the TARDIS.
Variety
As a gamer immersed in “The Robot Revolution,” I didn’t expect much beyond the usual narrative beats at first. But boy, was I wrong! The third act took a surprising and ambitiously bold turn that left me impressed. The final moments of the premiere were downright chilling.
TechRadar
As a fervent admirer, I found that “The Robot Revolution” served as a solid, though somewhat foreseeable, beginning for season 2 of Doctor Who. The chemistry between Ncuti Gatwa’s Time Lord and Varada Sethu’s Bel is promising, both visually and audibly, but to restore the sci-fi series to its peak form, it will require more than just a captivating lead dynamic.
Radio Times
‘The Robot Revolution’ was an interesting idea, but it could have been presented more effectively. Of course, a stronger opening is always desirable. However, the first episode served its purpose, and now we can only hope for more exhilarating journeys ahead.
Mashable
20 years following the show’s revival, Russell T Davies unveils his most daring season-long narrative yet, presenting an intriguing exploration of artificial intelligence. Here, Davies faces a significant challenge as he introduces a companion who breaks away from all traditional “Doctor Who” themes, even the endearing wit.
In the UK, you can catch Doctor Who on BBC One, while viewers outside the UK can enjoy it on Disney+. For those in the UK, classic episodes of Doctor Who are accessible on BBC iPlayer.
