Microsoft’s Quake 2 Demo Made Using Muse Generative AI Met With Negative Response
Microsoft’s “wow” moment, as described upon revealing their Muse generative AI, was met with unfavorable responses when a demo inspired by Quake II, created using the company’s ‘WHAMM’ (World and Human Action MaskGIT Model) real-time world modeling technology, was shown.
Some consider the demo inoperable due to its sluggish 10fps performance, artificial intelligence that struggles to recall level and object layouts, and a peculiarity where looking up to the ceiling and then down to the floor can result in a complete shift of the viewpoint, as Eurogamer points out.
As per Microsoft, the Muse AI demo showcases the ability to manipulate the model using keyboard or controller inputs, instantly observing the consequences of your actions within the model itself, essentially turning it into an interactive experience. However, the outcome falls short, presenting a pixelated game with noticeable controller delay and a disappointingly slow frame rate.
Microsoft has admitted the limitations of its AI system, indicating that it still has a considerable distance to travel before it can truly live up to the hype often associated with it as a “wow moment”.
