Married At First Sight fans are left heartbroken and sobbing during Mel Schilling tribute on season finale: ‘I’m in tears… so terribly sad’

Viewers of Married At First Sight braced themselves for drama during Monday’s reunion show, but they were surprised by how emotionally affecting it turned out to be.

At the end of this season of the popular show, after the last couple shared their final thoughts, viewers were surprised by one last unexpected segment.

A moving tribute to beloved expert Mel Schilling, who passed away from cancer in March.

As a collection of cherished memories appeared on screen, people turned to social media to express their shared sadness.

‘I’m in tears, what a beautiful tribute. You will be so missed, Mel!’ wrote one fan.

‘Vale Mel Schilling. You were a proper woman,’ added another.

Mel’s passing – so terribly sad,’ commented one more. ‘Strength to her loved ones’.

Meanwhile, another viewer was still coming to terms with her tragic death.

It’s been a really strange and upsetting few weeks, especially after learning about Mel’s passing, they shared.

‘Missing her so much, her smile is enough to bring joy to the whole world,’ said another.

‘We hope you’re doing well up there beautiful Mel,’ they added.

‘What a beautiful ending, it won’t be the same,’ wrote one more.

Mel tragically died aged 54 just days after revealing her cancer had spread to her brain.

In 2023, the Australian dating and relationship expert received a diagnosis of colon cancer. She and her family were living in London at the time so she could receive treatment.

She shared the good news that doctors had removed a lemon-sized tumor and confirmed she was cancer-free.

I was so saddened to learn that a friend recently shared her health journey. She discovered her cancer had spread to her lungs back in February of this year, and unfortunately, further tests over the Christmas holiday in 2025 revealed it had also spread to her brain. It’s a really tough situation, and she’s bravely sharing her experience.

Mel’s husband, Gareth Brisbane, sadly confirmed her passing with a heartfelt message. He spoke lovingly of his relationship with Mel and their 10-year-old daughter, Madison.

He wrote: ‘Melanie Jane Brisbane-Schilling passed away peacefully today, surrounded by love.

Even though I believed cancer had robbed her of her voice, she pulled me near as she was dying and whispered a message for Maddie and me – a message that will stay with me forever.

She used the last of her energy, and that simple act captured everything about our sweet Melsie. Even while exhausted, she was still thinking of Maddie and me.

‘This is a woman who became a new mum and a TV star at 42 — and nailed both.’

Despite enduring two years of grueling chemotherapy that left her incredibly weak, this woman remained remarkably positive, displaying unwavering courage, kindness, and understanding, all while consistently showing up to work every single day.

Many of you knew her as Mel Schilling, the beloved figure from Married at First Sight and a prominent face in reality television. But to her daughters, Maddie and me, she was simply ‘Melsie’ – a wonderful mother, someone we looked up to, and a cherished friend.

Our family and her friends are so grateful for all the support we’ve received from everyone around the world.
