Woody Harrelson explains why he turned down The White Lotus role

Woody Harrelson has explained why he turned down two roles in The White Lotus.

It is said that the actor was thought to be a possible contender for the part of Rick Hatchett in the third season of the popular HBO show. However, the role ultimately landed on Walton Goggins, and it’s been speculated that financial reasons might have contributed to Harrelson not being cast.

In a statement given to The Daily Beast, Harrelson explained why he wasn’t able to accept the role at that moment, attributing his unavailability to other ongoing obligations.

Initially, I was all geared up for the show “White Lotus” and was thrilled about it. Regrettably, their production timetable changed, which clashed with a previously arranged family holiday, leaving me in a very tough position and requiring a difficult choice to be made.

It was disclosed that Harrelson ended up agreeing to play the enigmatic character Frank, whom we later saw portrayed by Sam Rockwell in his role as Rick’s friend.

He went on saying: “Apparently, things are supposed to turn out this way, for I could not have performed as splendidly as Sam [Rockwell], who is truly excelling.

Harrelson’s team stated: “Initially, he was scheduled for the series, but they shifted the filming date. Since they changed the date, he became unavailable and they ended up replacing him with another actor, that role being ‘Sam’.

This season of “The White Lotus” takes place in Thailand and features Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, and Michelle Monaghan portraying three friends on a getaway; the affluent Ratliff family, played by Sarah Catherine Hook, Jason Isaacs, Sam Nivola, Parker Posey, and Patrick Schwarzenegger; and Aimee Lou Wood as Rick’s significant other.

Simultaneously, the hotel is attended by a devoted team consisting of Tayme Thapthimthon, Lalisa Manobal, and Christian Friedel.

In the third season, recurring characters like Belinda (played by Natasha Rothwell) and antagonist Greg/Gary (portrayed by Jon Gries) will make a comeback. Their familiarity with one another might potentially pose a threat to both parties.

The final episode of The White Lotus season 3 is set to broadcast this coming Sunday, April 6th, on HBO within the United States, with streaming options available on Max. For viewers in the UK, it will become accessible via Sky/NOW on Monday, April 7th, and will be aired on Sky Atlantic.
