Versace Mutiny: Staff Sacked After Donatella’s Forced Exit
When Donatella Versace was unceremoniously removed from her role as creative director for the Italian fashion brand last month, it caused a significant ripple effect within the company.
For nearly three decades, she had served as their beloved leader, assuming the position following her brother Gianni’s unfortunate demise. However, it was revealed that she was intentionally removed from her post, paving the way for the company to be acquired by Prada, due to a decline in profits during the pandemic.
Currently, TopMob discloses additional turmoil within the company as they dismissed several veteran and devoted employees during a series of layoffs that occurred concurrently with the arrival of Dario Vitale, who replaced Donatella in his role. Notably, Dario Vitale previously held a director position at Miu Miu, a competitor.
Based on reports within the company, the employees were let go upon the request of CEO Emmanuelle Gintzburger. Interestingly, this action wasn’t performed by him personally, as he was reportedly working overseas in Asia at that time.
According to sources within the company, a significant number of employees with high ratings were dismissed, leading to an uproar or unrest among the team. One employee stated, “Many valued staff members have been let go. This event took place last week, and it’s unfortunate that some dedicated, loyal individuals are no longer with us.
“They weren’t too happy that Emanuelle wasn’t available to handle the task, as it often falls under HR’s jurisdiction instead. Moreover, they felt unappreciated as he didn’t express gratitude for their diligent work and long-term commitment.
The atmosphere here is noticeably different after Donatella’s departure; it feels quite melancholic. Her presence really made a difference, and it’s evident by how vibrant and joyful the place used to be. Now, however, there seems to be an undercurrent of dissatisfaction or unrest.
Amongst the staff to be cut is an expectant mother.

The former Italian fashion designer, who has been the creative head of Versace since 1997 following Gianni’s passing, has stepped down from her position. This role was assumed by her after Capri Holdings acquired Versace seven years post-Gianni’s death in 1997.
Three weeks ago, they shared the news on their Instagram that I would be stepping down from my position within the company. However, starting in April, I’ll be transitioning to the role of Chief Brand Ambassador, which, according to fashion aficionados, is a more subdued responsibility compared to what I previously held.
In her fresh position, she will devote her efforts to aiding Versace in their philanthropic and charitable projects, while continuing to serve as a global ambassador for the brand. (According to the statement)
Regarding her departure, Donatella, aged 69, expressed: “Promoting the upcoming generation of fashion designers has always held significance for me.
It has been an indescribable privilege for me to continue my late brother, Gianni’s, remarkable legacy. Though he was a brilliant innovator, I aspire to embody some of his creativity and determination.
Reports suggest that the influential Italian fashion figure was intentionally removed in a scheme to facilitate the acquisition of the brand by competitor Prada, following a decline in profits due to the pandemic.
It is alleged that Emanuelle Gintzburger, CEO of Versace, and John Idol, head of Versace’s parent company Capri Holdings, conspired to remove Donatella Versace from her position and appoint Dario in her place. This move was reportedly part of a succession plan that Donatella did not approve of, which they wanted to push through without her consent.
It’s reported that those familiar with Donatella were intentionally excluded from discussions regarding the future direction of the fashion house carrying her name.

She’s not just lost a cherished job, but also had to break a vow she made to her deceased brother.
One fashion source told The Mail on Sunday: ‘She’s been dethroned in the most terrible way.
She didn’t believe she would pass away while seated on this throne. Yet, people are quarreling over it, unaware of the true essence of occupying it.
In my expertise, I’ve noticed that only Donatella was consistently pushing boundaries. Unfortunately, she’s stepped down recently. The whole situation has been intense and disheartening.
Or:
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve observed that it’s been Donatella who’s been making waves, but regrettably, she’s no longer in the game. The events leading up to her departure have been tumultuous and saddening.
Versace have been approached for comment.
