Wicked Stars Unite: Chenoweth and Menzel’s Emotional Encore After 22 Years

22 years following their initial performance, the lead actors from the original Broadway run of the musical Wicked reunited for a heartfelt duet, reminiscing about their time on the iconic “Great White Way.

On a thrilling Thursday evening, I had the privilege of gracing the same stage as the exceptional Idina Menzel, after her captivating performance at the Nederlander Theatre during the Broadway show Redwood. It was an unforgettable moment in my lifestyle as a performing arts enthusiast and professional.

After the performance concluded with an encore, Chenoweth emerged to warmly embrace her longtime friend and fellow actor in a heartfelt hug, all while raising funds for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

I couldn’t help but speak up after seeing the show tonight. I was deeply affected by it and I’m struggling to cope. They could earn more if they charged an exit fee, considering how moving the performance was. I simply wanted to express this sentiment. The emotional impact of the show was immense. I feel incredibly proud of my friend, who played Elphaba, especially as she performed alongside Menzel, who portrayed Galinda during the original run.

As Kristin prepared the audience for another round of enchanting performance from the renowned duo, she remarked, ‘We’ve performed this song with other talented artists, but let me tell you, there’s nothing quite like performing here together.’

As a lifestyle expert, I found myself, hailing from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, donned in a sleek, form-fitting black outfit. With an eager anticipation, I commenced to croon the captivating opening lines of the legendary Wicked song, For Good. Idina Menzel, standing nearby with a radiant smile gracing her face, was my audience for this unforgettable moment.

53-year-old Elsa (from Frozen) will shortly participate in an engaging duet, wearing casual black cargo pants and a blue sweater.

In the social media-shared video of their reunion and concert, they interlocked fingers and looked deeply into one another’s eyes as they reached the bridge in the song.

According to E News, by the end of the performance, not only were the two women in tears from joy, but so were some members of the audience.

Later on, Menzel lovingly lifted her friend from the ground in a comforting hug while the audience erupted with cheers.

In addition, they were captured on camera, linked arm-in-arm, as well as appearing alongside some members of the Redwood cast, in a backstage setting.

In the movie adaptation of Wicked, released just last year, Menzel and Chenoweth teamed up once more for an unexpected appearance, with Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande portraying Elphaba and Glinda.

The primary actors from the Emerald City Players had the opportunity to join the film’s main actresses in singing One Short Day.

Back in November, I simply couldn’t contain my excitement when I found myself standing among the crowd, all eyes fixed on the red carpet premiering Jon M. Chu’s masterpiece. And let me tell you, it was a sight to behold as four radiant women graced that carpet, each one sharing the limelight and stealing the show!

As an over-the-moon fan, I can’t contain my excitement when I say that the movie adaptation was nothing short of phenomenal! It stormed through the global cinema scene, amassing an astounding $747.2 million at the box office, all while sticking to a budget of just $150 million. Simply incredible!

The follow-up film titled “Wicked: For Good” is scheduled for worldwide cinema releases on November 21, 2025.

The musical “Wicked” draws inspiration from Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West,” which itself is based on L. Frank Baum’s 1900 book, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” as well as its 1939 movie adaptation.

This story functions as a precursor to “The Wizard of Oz,” offering insights into events preceding Dorothy’s arrival and focusing on the once-close bond between characters Elphaba and Glinda.

In summary, the initial stage performance on Broadway garnered a grand total of three Tonys and seven Drama Desk Awards. Additionally, its first release as an album was honored with a Grammy Award.
