Turns out Adam Devine isn’t dying from stiff person syndrome any time soon
I, Adam Devine, have faced some challenging health issues lately. Over the past few years, certain muscles in my body have experienced near-paralyzing spasms, leaving doctors puzzled as they try to find a cause. At one point, it was suggested that I might not have much time left. However, I am here and fighting to regain my health.
Turns out it is likely the COVID-19 pandemic’s fault.

This past week, as a movie enthusiast, I appeared on the “In Depth With Graham Bensinger” podcast and shared some personal insights. We delved into the topic of the unfortunate cement truck mishap that happened to me at age eleven, an event that significantly impacted my life. During our conversation, I brought up the shadow of stiff person syndrome, a condition that has played a role in my journey.
As a passionate film enthusiast, I once shared an harrowing experience that left me shattered below the waist, miraculously preserving my right femur. The lower part of my legs was also destroyed, and subsequently, every bit of skin on my body was stripped away – a chilling account I shared on Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast back in 2019.
Currently, his legs aren’t in their best condition, he shared with Bensinger, casually rolling up his trousers to disclose a heavily scarred lower leg. “I continue to manage various challenges,” he said. It’s no wonder, considering he needed to re-learn fundamental skills such as sitting, standing, walking, running, and even using the restroom at school due to multiple surgeries. He explained that he was unable to walk from sixth grade until halfway through eighth.
More recently, he’s been struggling to understand why his lower body keeps becoming stiff, causing him to move less freely. He mentioned that prolonged sitting, standing, or walking causes him pain, and he needs to stretch and use a foam roller frequently throughout the day for relief.

Celine Dion explains that a unique condition she has, which causes her muscles to stiffen and twitch, makes it difficult for her to sing or manage daily activities.
Devine shared that doctors had informed him he was close to death, specifically within the past year. The diagnosis given was a condition known as Stiff Person Syndrome.
In my own words, I’d say: As a follower, I’m sharing that the “Pitch Perfect” star clarified a health issue similar to what singer Celine Dion has been managing. This condition causes muscles to stiffen so severely that an affected person eventually finds it impossible to walk or move freely.
Afterward, your heart will cease its rhythmic pulsing, for the heart is a muscular organ that, when it becomes excessively constricted, can no longer continue to beat, leading eventually to your demise.
In January 2024, Devine received the devastating news that he had the disease. This was just a month prior to the birth of his son, Beau. The prognosis indicated an expected lifespan of approximately six years from this diagnosis.
He exclaimed, ‘What terrible luck! He’ll only grow up knowing his father in a weakened state.’

1960s teen heartthrob Bobby Sherman is receiving ‘specific attention’ at home due to his advanced stage of cancer, as reported by his spouse in a recent interview. “Things are winding down,” she added.
“And then they told me, ‘We think you might not have that.’”
Wait, what? Mmm-kay.
After passing through half a year, he was still unable to walk more than a few city blocks without experiencing unbearable tension. His condition showed no signs of improvement. This led the doctors to reconsider their initial diagnosis, and they suspected that he indeed suffered from Stiff Person Syndrome.
They dispatched the four-time Emmy nominee to the doctor renowned for originating the term “stiff person syndrome,” an expert in this specialized area, in search of a conclusive diagnosis.

Following Val Kilmer’s passing on Tuesday in Los Angeles, his family has shared their thoughts; meanwhile, Tom Cruise requests a brief moment of quiet reflection from the audience in tribute to their late friend.
That guy told Devine nope, still not stiff person syndrome.
He said, “This seems to relate to the accident you had as a child. The spasms are somewhat mysterious, but it might be because your muscles became so taut that your body doesn’t know how to handle it, causing some slight malfunctions.
Now, according to him, he believes he may have overdone his workout routines during the pandemic lockdown period.
He shared, “I was feeling quite dull… But once I get involved, I give it my all – 110%.” This intensity is a part of his character, which extends to every aspect of his life, from work and play to food and music. During the pandemic, he found new hobbies like cycling and CrossFit, as he had plenty of time on his hands.

On their Instagram account, Adam Devine and his wife, Chloe Bridges, shared the exciting news on Monday that they’re welcoming their first child into their family. They initially crossed paths in 2014, and exchanged wedding vows in 2021.
He mentioned that he’d cycle between 40 to 45 miles daily, followed by a rigorous CrossFit session. Reflecting on this routine, he stated, “I believe I reached a state where I was incredibly tense and tightly wound. My body has some minor issues that aren’t quite right, and it seems like these factors combined caused me to suddenly break.
“I’m still dealing with it. It’s been three years now.”
After discovering he won’t be dying imminently, he underwent stem-cell therapies – which were performed in Medellín, Colombia – for his knees, hips, and back.
“I think they’re kind of working,” Devine said. “I’m the best I’ve been, now, in three years.”

British entertainer-turned-commentator Russell Brand stands accused of numerous charges related to sexual assault and rape, with the accusations originating from events that transpired between 1999 and 2005.
Regardless of his desire for the part, it’s unlikely you’ll see him performing as an action hero in future comedy-action films.
Devine stated that he’ll be the humor element in the action film, alongside a renowned action actor who handles all the action scenes. However, Devine expressed a desire to take on multiple roles, as he enjoys performing stunts and finds them exciting.
“But now I’m trying to walk that line and seeing what I can do and what I can’t.”
