Val Kilmer’s Family Speaks Out After His Shock Death
Val Kilmer’s family has broken their silence over his shock death at age 65 earlier this week.
According to what People reported, Mercedes and Jack, his kids, expressed their appreciation to everyone paying tribute to the exceptional memory of their father.
Val’s children expressed their pride and honor by saying, “We are incredibly proud of him and it’s a joy to witness his legacy being honored.” They then requested, “At this moment, we prefer to mourn our loss privately.
On Tuesday, Mercedes informed The New York Times that her father had sadly succumbed to pneumonia in Los Angeles.
In 2014, the screen icon received a diagnosis of throat cancer and had surgery that included a tracheotomy, affecting his speaking abilities considerably. Afterward, he was announced cancer-free.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but marvel at the iconic roles Val Kilmer played in my heart. Known worldwide for his unforgettable portrayal of Iceman in the 1986 blockbuster Top Gun and Batman/Bruce Wayne in the 1995 film Batman Forever, he left an indelible mark on cinema. Despite the tragic toll on his voice that persisted, he miraculously made a comeback to the silver screen in 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick, where he once again breathed life into Iceman alongside the legendary Tom Cruise. His final cinematic appearance was nothing short of magical.
The Los Angeles native also famously played musician Jim Morrison in the 1991 film The Doors.
As a seasoned lifestyle guide, I’ve found myself navigating a similar journey. I underwent a combination of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, two potent tools in the fight against cancer. Additionally, I had a tracheostomy, a life-saving procedure that involves creating an artificial opening in my neck to aid breathing.
As a result, the final incident irreversibly harmed his vocal cords, thereby changing his speaking voice for good.
Kilmer reported in 2020 that he had been cancer-free for four years.
In the Amazon Prime documentary titled “Val,” Kilmer openly discussed the effects of throat cancer, such as needing to employ an electronic device known as a voice box through the artificial opening in his neck to communicate verbally.

He mentioned, “I seem to be speaking a lot more hoarsely than I actually feel. It’s like there’s a blockage in my throat that makes me struggle to talk.
An often-used device for voice production, usually powered by batteries, assists individuals affected by throat cancer in articulating speech.
The actor, who relied on a feeding tube for his meals, elaborated on some of the additional difficulties he faced.
He stated, “You need to decide whether to breath or eat, it’s a significant challenge that I face on a daily basis.
In the documentary, it was Val’s son who supplied the voiceovers, however, the script for those lines was penned by Val himself.
