Ben Miller and Sally Phillips’ Australian series confirms BBC release date: “A laugh-out-loud must-see”

It’s been confirmed that the premiere date for the Australian comedy-drama series titled “Austin” featuring Ben Miller and Sally Phillips, will soon be upon us, as reported by the BBC.

The show first aired in Australia about a year ago, and it’s finally set to debut in the UK this coming Friday, April 4th.

Beginning that date, all eight episodes can be streamed on BBC iPlayer, with each episode available for viewing. However, the first episode will make its television premiere on BBC One at 9:30 PM.

In this series, Miller portrays Julian Hartswood, a children’s book writer, who appears to have damaged not only his own but also his wife Ingrid’s (played by Phillips) career due to an inappropriate post made on social media.

Shortly following this, Julian encounters his previously unaware son, Austin, who is neurodivergent, unexpectedly. Julian ponders if welcoming this child into his life and creating a contemporary version of a nuclear family – with the added twist of being filmed by documentary makers – could serve as his means of escaping from the predicament of cancellation.

Eventually, he’ll discover that Austin isn’t as easy to manipulate as he thought, and Ingrid won’t be supporting him unconditionally either.

Additionally to Miller and Phillips, who are known for their roles in “Death in Paradise” and “Bridget Jones,” respectively, the show also features Michael Theo, a rising talent from the Australian reality series “Love on the Spectrum.” He plays the character named Austin.

Critics have praised Theo’s acting as one of the standout elements of the show. The West Australian, which labeled Austin a hilarious must-watch, noted that the former reality star, now an actor, delivers his lines with impeccable comic timing, making it hard to believe he hadn’t acted before.

In the Australian edition of The Guardian, it was noted that Theo possesses a subtle yet captivating allure, and they expressed their desire for another season, which has now been granted.

On Friday, April 4th, Austin makes its debut on BBC One. You’ll be able to watch all the episodes on iPlayer from that same day as well.
