Actress Zahra Ahmadi, who plays a role in the series “Beyond Paradise,” has provided additional insights into the playful exchange between Archie (portrayed by Jamie Bamber) and Esther in the premiere episode of season three.
In a private conversation with Digital Spy, the actress playing Esther subtly suggested that there might be romantic developments between her character, Esther, and Archie, who used to be Martha’s fiancé.
Ahmadi stated, “Indeed, Esther and Archie seem to have a playful interaction in the initial episode. It seems to me that he takes her by surprise since I don’t believe she attended this gathering primarily to find a romantic partner. Instead, it appears that she joined because their entire group was invited.
Ahmadi added: “Indeed, she finds him quite attractive. This is discussed in the first season. She comments on his good looks, which leads to a conversation with Humphrey (Kris Marshall) about Martha’s former partner. I believe her curiosity about him grows due to his demeanor.
In “Beyond Paradise”, the actor hinted at potential developments for the duo beyond their first encounter, saying: “I believe she’s open [to more], but I also think she’s a good friend. At some point in their exploration of this relationship with Archie, she feels guilty because she might not be acting as a good friend to Martha (Sally Bretton), as they have developed quite a strong friendship.

Besides Ahmadi, it’s also Kelby (played by Dylan Llewellyn) who will be venturing into romantic territory this season, as he dives into the realm of online dating.
According to Llewellyn, Kelby’s romantic involvement with Charlie (played by Jade Harrison) concludes. While many might hope for their relationship, I believe it wouldn’t have been sustainable due to their fundamental differences. Moreover, being in the same profession can present challenges too.

From where I stand, it seems they hold each other in high regard, but there were times when he appeared clumsy and disorganized. However, he’s showing signs of improvement, which is fantastic! He’s managing to move on from her and is now seeking someone who appreciates him.
“Kelby deserves love and I hope he finds it. Hopefully in this season.”
Beyond Paradise and Death in Paradise both air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer.
