As a devoted follower, I found myself puzzled when my father, Martin, casually used an enigmatic term during our conversation about his union with my mother, Shirlie Holliman, leaving me scratching my head in bewilderment.
In the latest episode of their podcast FFS! My dad, they delved into some passionate conversations.
32-year-old Roman found himself puzzled after Spandau Ballet star, aged 63, offhandedly revealed that his wife, Shirlie, had occasionally scolded him severely during their 37-year long marriage.
Worried it might be a strange double-entendre, Roman exclaimed unexpectedly and asked his renowned dad for clarification.
Or:
Concerned the phrase could be a puzzling reference, Roman swore in surprise and sought an explanation from his well-known father.
Despite the peculiar choice of words, the moment sparked a fit of laughter between them.
Martin started by saying, “Shirlie often delivers sharp words or criticisms…When I say ‘sharp words,’ you can easily understand what I mean. She’s skilled at it; she is proficient in the art of constructive criticism, knowing just when and how to correct me.

What on earth are you talking about? That is absolutely terrible, it’s the most offensive thing you’ve ever said. I can already imagine the headline, it’s just awful.
In an attempt to hide their chuckles, Martin conveyed his feelings by stating, “It’s always a pleasure for me to drop by and chat with you.
When I’m out socializing with friends, I don’t usually laugh as heartily as when I’m right here, having a conversation with you.
While Martin has been enjoying the perks of podcasting with his son, it’s not all smooth sailing.
Previously, Roman candidly discussed the stresses of being a celebrity’s offspring, confessing to his father that he often carries the burden of high expectations.
Together, the pair debated about the qualities that make up strong work values. Martin commended Roman, stating: “Your work ethic is truly impressive.
Is “work ethic” just another term for giving your all at work? However, Roman disagreed, explaining that a strong work ethic isn’t merely about exhausting oneself. Instead, it involves striking a balance between work and personal life while still maintaining enthusiasm.
Later on, Roman voiced his inner struggle, admitting: “Is it possible to balance determination and aspiration with staying authentic and self-aware?

‘That really overwhelms me as I often find myself at a point where I just can’t be bothered anymore, and I feel like giving up on everything.’
Regardless of any strained feelings, Roman has consistently felt a unique connection with his father. In the past, he shared with OK! Magazine that he has never experienced a sense of not being friends, which might seem unusual to others.
He mentioned that discussions about Arsenal in football have always been an essential part of their bond, similar to how it is among his friends.
He mentioned that football plays a significant role for him. He plans on discussing Arsenal with his father, just as he would with his friends.
As a child, it wasn’t, “My father is taking me out for the day,” but rather felt more like an outing with a friend.
