Eamonn Holmes has publicly addressed his recent stroke for the first time, sharing a heartwarming message from his family on Sunday.
The GB News presenter was taken to the hospital on Tuesday after feeling unwell, but is reportedly recovering well, according to a recent statement.
I’m sharing a sweet update on how I’m doing! My wonderful granddaughters perfectly summed it up – I’m focusing all my energy on getting better soon. It means the world to me, and I’m taking things one day at a time.
‘Thank you for all of your many many good wishes, they give me strength.’
Just hours earlier, Eamonn’s son Declan said the stroke had come as a ‘real shock’ to the family.
He said they were very grateful for all the messages they’d received, as it meant a lot to the whole family.
It was a huge surprise, but Dad is recovering well considering everything, and we’re just focusing on getting through each day.
‘For now, we’re focused on him and keeping things steady around him.
We’d appreciate some privacy while we deal with this difficult time and figure out the future, but we’re incredibly grateful for all the support – it means the world to my dad and our family.
Eamonn was scheduled to be back on GB News Breakfast this Monday, where he usually co-hosts the show with Ellie Costello from Monday to Wednesday.
Alex Armstrong will step in to present in his absence this week.
A spokesperson for GB News announced that Eamonn Holmes became ill last week and was later diagnosed with a stroke.
He’s making good progress with his treatment. Eamonn has requested privacy while he recovers.
Everyone at GB News and his coworkers are wishing him a quick recovery and hope to see him back on the channel when he’s feeling better.
Angelos Frangopoulos, the CEO of GB News, stated that Eamonn is a valued part of their team and they are fully supporting him during his recovery.
Eamonn recently revealed some upsetting news about his health. He also expressed frustration, saying the television industry seems to have lost interest in him now that he’s older and uses a wheelchair, which he feels is due to ageism.
Let me tell you, staying active is key, but sometimes life throws you curveballs! A few years ago, in 2016, I had both hips replaced. I was recovering well, but then in 2021, I unfortunately dealt with three slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis. It was a tough time, but it really highlighted the importance of listening to your body and prioritizing recovery.
He underwent significant spinal surgery the next year, and has experienced a number of health problems since then.
During an interview with Darren Jones, the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, last month, Eamonn appeared to be falling asleep on air.
As Ellie questioned Darren about the Mandelson files, Eamonn closed his eyes. Later, during the conversation, he grabbed a pen and had trouble getting the cap back on.
Once the interview was over, Eamonn signed off by saying, “We’ll be back tomorrow morning! Enjoy your day, no matter what you’re doing.”
Eamonn later clapped back at claims that he was ‘falling asleep’ live on air.
I recently learned some interesting details from an event I attended last month. The star in question finally clarified things during a chat with Hayley Palmer at her ‘An Audience With…’ event, which was held at the Hippodrome Casino in London. It was great to hear them address everything directly!
He explained that he had glanced down at his microphone because it wasn’t functioning, noting they didn’t have the usual support staff like floor managers or camera operators.
‘Apparently I was sleeping? Whatever!’
