Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper’s “incredibly special” Doctor Who return details confirmed

I can hardly contain my excitement! It’s official – The Ninth Doctor, played by Christopher Eccleston, and Rose Tyler, portrayed by Billie Piper, are coming back to the Whoniverse for even more thrilling escapades!

The pair’s comeback signifies the 20-year milestone since the relaunch of ‘New Who’, which BBC’s cherished science fiction show first appeared on our screens in 2005.

In August 2025, fans can look forward to the return of Eccleston and Piper in a fresh series of an audio drama titled “Doctor Who,” produced by Big Finish. Recently, more information about the premiere episode has surfaced.

The upcoming series features a total of twelve fresh tales, each taking place chronologically within the TV show’s timeline, bridging the gap between the episodes titled “Father’s Day” and “The Empty Child.

The first episode in the series is called “Snare.” It includes Camille Coduri acting as Rose’s mom, Jackie Tyler, and the TARDIS team going back to the Powell Estate.)

In this installment, Tim Foley, who holds them dear, pens the script, expressing that the Ninth Doctor and Rose hold a particularly significant place in his heart.

In simple terms, you’ll get acquainted with one of Rose’s long-time friends named Kevin. Together, you’ll uncover hidden mysteries in his father’s former apartment. Additionally, you’ll sample the culinary delights prepared by Jackie Tyler, so brace yourself!

20 years since her initial encounter with the TARDIS and embarking on an adventure alongside Eccleston as Rose, Piper expressed her enthusiasm: “Here we are once more, me and Chris, prepared for another round of fun exploring the cosmos – and battling the creatures – side by side.

Set for release in August, the new audio adventures are available to pre-order now from Big Finish.

Fans have the option to buy either the forthcoming episode individually, or the entire series digitally. Alternatively, they could opt for a bundle that includes both a digital version and a collector’s edition CD.
