Zendaya’s long-delayed biopic gets an exciting update

The much-anticipated biographical film about Zendaya titled “Be My Baby” just got a thrilling development as a well-known director is now joining the project.

In the year 2020, it became official that the actor known as the Challenger had been chosen to play the role of the iconic singer Ronnie Spector, a member of the girl group the Ronettes. However, information about this project has been scarce since then.

According to Deadline, Barry Jenkins, who won an Oscar for Moonlight, has been officially added as the director for the project. Dave Kajganich, known for his work on Suspiria, is now responsible for writing the screenplay, replacing Jackie Sibblies Drury who was previously attached to the project.

The upcoming film titled “Be My Baby” is expected to delve into the turbulent life of Phil Spector, with agreements finalized for his life rights and a memoir carrying the same title.

Prior to her passing in 2022, Spector was already linked as an executive producer for the project, having personally chosen Zendaya to portray the character.

Among the major upcoming productions for Zendaya are “The Odyssey” by Christopher Nolan, where her boyfriend Tom Holland will also star, in addition to “Shrek 5” and a film titled “The Drama,” alongside Robert Pattinson.

Back in the beginning of this year, I found myself delving into some new and mature characters on screen – a shift from my past roles as a teenager that I’ve played over the years.

She shared with The Hollywood Reporter’s Actress Roundtable that for quite some time, she had been portraying a teenager, even after I was no longer one.

Playing Rue on Euphoria has been one of the most precious experiences of my life, but eventually, I must move forward and portray characters that are older than her. This step was quite terrifying for me.

In reference to her outstanding performance in the recent film “Challengers”, she remarked: “Being the lead actress in ‘Challengers’ was a new experience for me, and I was also involved in its production. It was an exhilarating yet nerve-wracking adventure.

However, when you come across specific characters, it feels irresistible for you not to seize the chance to portray that female character.

Be My Baby is yet to confirm a release date.
