Art Central Hong Kong 2025: A Celebration of Contemporary Art and Experimentation
Art Central is back for its 10th installment at the well-known Central Harbourfront in Hong Kong, reinforcing its position as a key event during Hong Kong Art Week and an essential element supporting the local arts community. Kickstarting with preview sessions organized by its partner UOB, the fair will be open to the public from March 26th to 30th, 2025, at its iconic Central Harbourfront venue.
Known for its groundbreaking work in modern art and innovative exploration, this fair provides a stage for both established and rising artists. It showcases museum-worthy pieces alongside avant-garde creations spanning multiple mediums. Backed by the Mega Arts and Cultural Events Fund from Hong Kong SAR’s Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau, the fair remains a must-visit spot for art lovers during Hong Kong’s annual arts festival. This year’s event boasts 108 galleries and over 500 artists representing more than 40 countries and territories, further solidifying its international allure.
The fair announces a bold artistic project featuring a significant commissioned work by Nadim Abbas, an artist from Hong Kong, along with enhanced presentation formats for performances and lectures. This program also features the Curator-led Legend initiative, highlighting established artists born before 1970, including influential figures like Ay-O of the Fluxus movement, trailblazing Japanese photographer Eikoh Hosoe, and Australian painter Emily Kame Kngwarray from the Asia-Pacific region.
For the second time around, the Neo section is broadening its scope, returning with a lineup of 15 galleries that highlight both established and rising stars in the art world. Among them are Areté Space (Beijing), FIM (Seoul) and The Locker Room (New York). Additionally, there will be exhibits from Avocado Art Lab (Taipei), known for its contemporary photography, as well as Shunpudo Gallery (Tokyo), which delves into Japanese art from the post-war era to the present.
Moreover, the fair features a comprehensive Video Art exhibition from the Akeroyd Collection, creating a vibrant and thought-provoking environment for modern art discussions. Art Central remains open to the public until March 30, enabling guests to delve into the wide variety of displayed artworks. Tickets can be bought online or at the venue, while additional information about the event can be found on its official website.
