The Ritual’s creepy trailer promises “the most terrifying exorcism in American history”
The inaugural trailer for the forthcoming terror film “The Ritual” has been released, hinting at “the scariest exorcism ever witnessed on American soil.
Featuring Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens and iconic actor Al Pacino, this movie portrays the authentic tale of Emma Schmidt, a woman who experienced multiple exorcisms spanning decades following claims of her being possessed by demons.
In the trailer alone, it’s clear that The Ritual isn’t for those who scare easily. It’s got this chilling atmosphere reminiscent of a horror classic like The Exorcist, amplified by Al Pacino’s ominous narration and that spine-tingling sound every time Emma turns her head – shivers!

In this scenario, Al Pacino portrays Father Theophilus Riesinger, a Roman Catholic priest who conducted a lengthy exorcism over Schmidt in the year 1928. Joaquin Phoenix plays Joseph Steiger, who aided him in this endeavor.
In the role of Schmidt is none other than Abigail Cowen, who enchants us from “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”. Ashley Greene, famously known for her part in “Twilight”, takes on Sister Rose, and the beloved Patricia Heaton graces our screens as Mother Superior from the series “Everybody Loves Raymond”.

The film titled “The Ritual” is helmed by director David Midell, with collaborative screenplay work from Midell and Enrico Natale. It’s scheduled for release in cinemas on June 6th.
Stevens has been making a name for himself as a frequent actor in horror films; he played a role in “Abigail” earlier and appeared in “Cuckoo” last year.
In an interview with Digital Spy last April, Stevens explained his fascination with the horror genre: “For me, it’s more about the vision of the director. Many creative and innovative filmmakers seem drawn to working within this genre.
These movies are quite distinct from one another. They each possess an unusual, humorous quality, coupled with gruesome and bizarre elements. This unique combination of genres appeals to me in a peculiar way.
