Terri Irwin shares sweet throwback of Magda Szubanski and late husband Steve to celebrate the comedian’s 65th birthday after cancer battle

Terri Irwin recently posted a heartfelt message for her friend, Magda Szubanski, celebrating the comedian’s 65th birthday while Magda continues her recovery from a rare cancer diagnosis.

On Sunday, the 61-year-old reality TV star posted an old photo to social media. It showed her and her late husband, Steve, happily posing with Magda at their Australia Zoo in Queensland back in the early 2000s.

The famous conservationists were all smiles as they posed with the Kath and Kim actress and showed her one of the zoo’s most famous snakes – a big python.

Magda looked thrilled as she happily cuddled the reptile while Steve and Terri looked on.

Terri shared a birthday message for Magda Szubanski, calling her ‘fearless and fabulous’ in the photo’s caption.

The Irwins have been close with the famous Australian comedian ever since she appeared with Steve and Terri in the 2002 film, Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course.

Last May, Magda shared on social media that she was fighting a rare cancer called Mantle Cell Lymphoma.

She appeared on camera with a shaved head after beginning her treatment to fight the disease.

Hi everyone. I’ve recently been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of lymphoma, and I’ve shaved my head because I expect to lose my hair in the next few weeks as a result.

This is a really tough situation, honestly. But I’m so lucky to have amazing friends and family around me, and the medical team taking care of me is just incredible. They’re really helping me get through this.

I truly believe Australia, and especially Melbourne, has some of the very best resources and opportunities globally. I feel incredibly lucky to be here.

It can be really difficult to deal with, and it’s intense. However, there’s a constant stream of new and promising treatments being developed.

Magda explained she began a treatment plan called the Nordic protocol for her mantle cell lymphoma. This treatment uses a series of drugs over five stages to reduce the size of the tumors.

Thankfully, Magda’s treatment is going well, and she recently shared positive news about her health while continuing to fight stage four cancer.

The actress, known for her role in Babe, announced she’s now cancer-free after successfully finishing chemotherapy. She was diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma in 2025.

The Kath & Kim star responded to online trolls by criticizing them for spreading a false rumor about Magda’s death. She shared her thoughts in a post to her social media stories.

She wondered what more she could add, after thanking her fans for their support and acknowledging the dedication of her medical team.

She joked that while she was still alive, social media might disagree, since it seemed to have more information about her life than she did.

Magda looked lively as she described her news as ‘fantastic’.
