Chappell Roan surfaces for first time since security guard drama that left Jude Law’s daughter in tears as she attends Coachella 2026

Chappell Roan made her first public appearance since a security incident in Brazil last month at Coachella this Saturday.

Roan faced strong criticism after reports surfaced that a security guard working with her had a heated encounter with Jude Law’s daughter, Ava, and her mother while they were eating breakfast at a hotel in Sao Paulo. Both Roan and the Law family were staying at the same hotel.

Both Roan and her bodyguard, Pascal Duvier, have firmly denied that he worked for her or did anything at her request.

Despite the recent controversy, the singer of “Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl” made her first public appearance this week at the popular music festival in the California desert.

She looked completely different than usual, with her normally big, flowing hair styled flat and much less makeup than we’re used to seeing.

The 28-year-old, though not performing at Coachella this year, dressed for the festival in a stylish pirate costume with gold accents.

She appeared just a few weeks after Duvier, 53, publicly spoke about the situation that upset his daughter, Ava Law.

Four days after the incident, he wrote on Instagram taking responsibility for what happened on March 21st. He explained he was at the hotel representing someone else and wasn’t working as part of Chappell Roan’s security team.

Duvier stated that he acted independently and wasn’t representing Chappell Roan, her security, her management, or anyone else.

I made a decision considering details from the hotel, things I’d seen happening recently, and the generally increased security concerns in the area.

Duvier finished his statement by saying that his only interaction with the mother was peaceful and well-meaning, and he regrets how things turned out.

Duvier used to work for Kim Kardashian, but she was let go after the robbery Kardashian experienced in Paris in 2016.

Roan claims she wasn’t aware of any contact between her team and Ada, who was visiting her mother, Catherine Harding, and stepfather, soccer player Jorginho, at the same hotel as the Grammy-winning artist.

According to her spokesperson, she didn’t tell her security team or anyone working with her to approach those individuals.

Ada and her mom were excited to see Roan perform at Lollapalooza.

However, Ada’s stepfather posted on social media that the planned outing was canceled following their encounter with Duvier.

Jorginho explained that the argument started when Ada walked by the table where Roan was eating breakfast.

The player said his stepdaughter was surprised to see the singer, and had to look twice to be sure it was really them, before returning to her table.

Towering Duvier encountered the mother and daughter there, leaving Ada deeply upset and crying uncontrollably.

Harding, who was born in London, spoke about the disagreement in a late-night social media post, confirming Roan claims he didn’t directly send Duvier to get involved.

Responding to the comments, Harding stated that while she hoped it wouldn’t be the case, celebrities have a duty to ensure their employees and representatives are acting appropriately and in line with their values.

She questioned whether he would act without her permission, admitting she wasn’t sure. If he did, she explained, it would be a serious issue, as he would be portraying her views inaccurately.

Harding stated that Duvier’s harsh scolding of Ada and her mother completely spoiled their birthday outing. Duvier spoke to them in a very aggressive manner, effectively ruining the treat.

Harding believes the security guard went too far by sending Roan, as the guard is a very imposing figure.

The mother of two also said Duvier told her their daughter lacked proper education and threatened to complain to the hotel about it.

Harding finished by saying he hoped, if the person responsible wasn’t her directly, she would make sure her employees didn’t treat people so badly in the future.

Following a recent incident, the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Cavaliere, has prohibited Roan from performing at the Todo Mundo festival.

After the scandal broke, a previously unseen video surfaced showing how Roan had interacted with fans in the past. Critics used this video to further scrutinize his behavior.

In a short video shared on Reddit and X (previously Twitter), Roan gestured to her bodyguard after noticing she was being recorded from a distance.

She quickly pointed toward the fan with a gesture, then stepped into position behind her guard.

The guard, looking serious, noticed the person behind the camera, pointed at them, and started walking in their direction, seemingly calling out as he did so.

The footage was taken at Sydney Airport in February ahead of her appearance at Laneway Festival.

After news of the security incident broke over the weekend, a video of the singer began circulating online, prompting questions and discussion about their actions from social media users.

People on Reddit were surprised that Chappell Roan, who seems very aware of cameras, didn’t appear to notice her security guard scolding a child.

‘Some people are not meant for a public life,’ wrote another.

In a post on Saturday, Roan clarified that she doesn’t dislike people who enjoy her music, and she certainly doesn’t dislike children.

That’s awful. I feel terrible for the mother and child that someone would even think that, or assume they would do something like that.

‘If you felt uncomfortable that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that.’
