Doctor Who’s Newest Found Episodes & Where To Watch Them, Explained

Two episodes of the classic science fiction show Doctor Who, lost for over 60 years, have recently been found. Many episodes featuring the show’s first two Doctors are missing because the BBC used to routinely discard old programs in the 1970s, believing there was no need to keep them.

During the show’s first ten years, many episodes were discarded to free up storage space. Most were thankfully found again and still exist as audio recordings, but almost 100 episodes from the first six seasons of Doctor Who are still missing today.

Great news for fans! The number of missing episodes of the show has decreased. Two episodes were recently discovered in early 2026, bringing the total of lost installments down to 95. This discovery offers hope that even more lost episodes might be found, even though some are likely gone for good. It’s a significant victory for fans of the show.

Two Episodes From The Daleks’ Master Plan Have Been Found

Finding new episodes of Doctor Who is always exciting, but the announcement in March 2026 felt particularly special. The BBC revealed that the newly discovered episodes come from The Daleks’ Master Plan, a 12-part story from the show’s third season. This epic adventure features the return of the Doctor’s most famous enemy, and it’s the longest single story from that time period.

We’ve now recovered episodes one and three, bringing the total number of discovered parts of The Daleks’ Master Plan to five. While most of the story is still missing, finding these two episodes makes the remaining lost segments easier to deal with. It’s much simpler to recreate classic, incomplete stories using animation when fewer episodes are gone.

While there are no current plans for a cartoon version, the BBC quickly released the recently found episodes. You can now watch “The Nightmare Begins” and “The Devil Planet” for free on the Classic Doctor Who YouTube channel, alongside all the other surviving episodes featuring the first seven Doctors.

Will Any More Missing Episodes Be Found?

Although we can’t know for sure what will happen, it’s probable that more lost episodes will surface. This recent discovery might lead to others, or simply, as time goes on, it might become easier to find them. Recovering these episodes isn’t straightforward, though, because figuring out who legally owns them is complicated – it’s not as simple as just requesting them.

As a longtime Doctor Who fan, I was thrilled to hear about the recovery of some episodes from The Daleks’ Master Plan! It’s been a while since we had a big find – the last complete story, The Enemy of the World, surfaced back in 2013. Discoveries are getting rarer, which makes you wonder if we’ve found everything that’s left. But honestly, a part of me will always believe there’s another lost treasure trove of Doctor Who episodes waiting to be found.
