Actor Kiell Smith-Bynoe, famously known for his role as a ghost on the show, has disclosed a potential plot idea that he’s eager to explore should the series resurface in the future.
The five-season BBC sitcom centers around Alison (Charlotte Ritchie) and her husband Mike Cooper (Smith-Bynoe), who find themselves inheriting a large but deteriorating mansion. After an incident, Alison uncovers that the house is haunted and possesses the ability to communicate with these spectral beings.
Despite the series ending in 2023, there remains optimism among fans that the BBC might bring it back to life. Notably, actor Smith-Bynoe has hinted that if given another chance, a plotline from the U.S. version would be his preferred storyline for his character’s return.
In a chat with Metro, the star expressed interest in an episode of the American series “Ghosts” where the husband is taken over by other spirits. They mentioned it would be enjoyable and hoped the BBC might consider something similar.

The actor mentioned that since their show is producing episodes with similar themes to others, they have more content to share. They’ve previously been on Taskmaster as well. They hinted at the possibility of a crossover event, expressing their enthusiasm for such an occurrence.
However, simply getting the chance to meet him was enough. I encountered Brandon Scott Jones, who portrays Captain Isaac Higgintoot, when Martha Howe-Douglas and I were performing The Government Inspector. This created a small connection between us.
Though it’s unclear if Ghosts will make a comeback, Smith-Bynoe took a moment to reflect on the enduring impact of the series. He expressed his delight in its ability to resonate with various age groups, stating: “It has a broad fan base that spans multiple generations. Each time someone tells me they appreciate the show, it truly brings me happiness.
As a gamer, when I’m huddled in this ancient, frosty house during January, blasting away at something uncertain about its response to my actions, questioning if the humor will land or fade into obscurity, and then finding that it continues to echo years later – man, it feels fantastic!
