Beyond starring in the movie, Sweeney will also take on the role of producer for this project through her production company, Fifty-Fifty Films. Eric Roth, known for his past works like Forrest Gump and Dune, has been signed to write the script.

In a similar vein to Hollywood approving other adaptations from unusual sources, the 2020 film “Zola,” featuring Taylour Paige and Riley Keough, was developed from a popular Twitter thread originating from X.

The upcoming production of Sweeney is a project where Sweeney takes on the role of pretending to be a missing girl. Other forthcoming films include “The Housemaid” and an as-yet unnamed biography about former boxer Christy Martin, in which Sweeney will star.

After completing work on “Anyone But You” and “Immaculate,” the latter being a deeply personal project for the actor, she discussed the impact of “The Handmaid’s Tale” on her horror film during an exclusive interview with Digital Spy.

Each year, at unexpected instances, it [Immaculate] would suddenly cross my mind,” she shared. “A pivotal moment for me that made me decide to be resolute about making this happen was when I was shooting The Handmaid’s Tale.

Observing Elisabeth Moss, it was remarkable to see her multitask with directing, producing, and being deeply engaged throughout the series. Additionally, as I watched them prepare each shot and noticed the cinematic quality of the entire production, the idea of Immaculate began to resonate within my mind.

I truly enjoyed every moment during the process – it felt like I didn’t even want to depart. Each day, wrapping up at the end felt premature; I wished I could be there first thing in the morning to greet everyone and ensure everything was running efficiently. The experience was simply fantastic.
