Robert De Niro’s new gangster movie called “boring” and “passionless” in first reviews

Critics have labeled Robert De Niro’s latest gangster film, titled “The Alto Knights“, as “dull” and “lacking emotion” in their initial assessments.

Under the guidance of director Barry Levinson, the movie chronicles the rivalry between infamous New York gangsters Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, portrayed by Robert De Niro, as they compete to dominate the urban landscape.

Prior to its premiere in theaters tomorrow, the movie featuring actresses Debra Messing and Kathrine Narducci, has been given low marks by critics.

Currently holding a 35% score on Rotten Tomatoes, some reviewers have harshly criticized Robert De Niro’s portrayal of the two main characters. However, other critics have praised the actor, stating that he managed to keep up with his co-stars effectively.

It’s not something that’s enjoyable because it’s poor quality. Instead, it’s just plain bad – uninteresting, poorly executed, and lacking any real appeal or entertainment value. It doesn’t have the sensational or humorous qualities that might make it newsworthy or meme-worthy.

In a simplified manner, “Pileggi’s script and Levinson’s disjointed directing, much like De Niro’s performance, don’t effectively portray the central conflict between contrasting beliefs in this movie.

In simpler terms, when the film isn’t filled with recycled storytelling and directorial techniques similar to Scorsese’s work, we’re left with Robert De Niro who appears uninterested. He delivers a lackluster performance at best, barely managing to give us two distinct ones.

Despite his undeniable talent for tackling challenging tasks, much like Robert De Niro, the overall result becomes overly reliant on tricks and stunts, which unfortunately strips the film of its intended gravity.

The movie starts off strongly with an impressive sense of substance and power, yet as it progresses, the intrigue seems to lessen and it fails to deliver either grandeur or consistent humor.

As a dedicated gamer, let me tell you this: If anyone had any doubts about Robert De Niro’s exceptional talent, those doubts are now completely squashed during these head-on encounters. There isn’t another star out there who could have matched his prowess as convincingly as De Niro did.

It’s reminiscent of well-made films in the vein of Scorsese, yet it’s satisfyingly lightweight, similar to settling comfortably into an old, beloved armchair.

The Alto Knights will be released in cinemas on March 21.
