Known for his work directing the 2013 film “47 Ronin,” Carl Erik Rinsch, was taken into custody in West Hollywood this week over allegations that he swindled Netflix out of approximately $11 million.
The funds intended for completing a TV series that had already received $44 million were misused. Instead, they ended up in Rinsch’s personal bank accounts, covering his personal expenses, investments, and even losses, as stated in a federal court indictment filed this month in the Southern District of New York.

In the movie directed by Carl Rinsch, starring Keanu Reeves, there’s not much fresh material to bring to the table in terms of the samurai genre.
On March 6, 2020, $11 million deposited by Netflix into the Rinsch Co. account was swiftly moved through several other accounts. By the end of several weeks, approximately $10.5 million ended up in a personal brokerage account, as stated in the indictment. However, within just two months, the director reportedly squandered over half of that money by making risky stock market investments, according to the indictment.
As I spoke with Netflix all along, I kept praising “White Horse,” assuring them it was fantastic and progressing smoothly.
For approximately the next few years, it’s claimed that the director transferred the remaining funds into cryptocurrencies and subsequently gained wealth through crypto trading activities. Subsequently, he reportedly splurged around $10 million on various luxuries such as five Rolls-Royces, a Ferrari, expensive watches, clothing, high-end bedding and linens, credit card bills, legal fees for lawsuits against Netflix for additional funds and divorce proceedings. The document stated that about $3.8 million was spent on furniture and antiques, including two mattresses that totaled $638,000, while the half-dozen vehicles cost slightly over $2.4 million.
Originally conceived as a science fiction series, “White Horse” was intended to depict superintelligent clones exiled in Brazil, who then created sophisticated technology and encountered conflicts – both with humans and internally, according to the accusation. Regrettably, this production was never brought to fruition.

Later that day, he secured his release by pledging a $100,000 bond as collateral for his attendance at a future hearing in a New York federal court. He did not provide a plea during the initial appearance.
He’s faced charges for one instance of wire fraud, as well as two allegations of money laundering, and four accusations of participating in financial transactions linked to criminal activity.
A court date had not yet been assigned.
