Adolescence’s Ashley Walters ‘screwed up’ a take in Netflix’s one-shot drama: “I was in bits”

In a candid moment, actor Ashley Walters from the Netflix series “Adolescence” admitted that he made a mistake during one of his takes, leaving him feeling quite upset about it.

The critically praised new show centers around a 13-year-old student accused of killing a fellow female classmate. Notably, it’s filmed as a single take for every one of its four episodes.

In other words, there was a lot more pressure during the production process since Walters remembered a past error he had committed.

During an appearance on Capital XTRA Breakfast, a recording of Stephen Graham, fellow star and co-creator, was broadcast, which clearly demonstrated the mistake.

Later on, Walters confirmed: “Indeed, it took place. Let me clarify, in episode two, towards the end, I actually chased a child, and accidentally referred to him as my son’s name instead of his character’s name.

The actor shared that director Philip Barantini approached him later on, expressing concern as he seemed “distraught”, and said: “Don’t you feel like you’ve missed a crucial play? It’s as if you’re fumbling the ball for everyone, can you relate? It’s like a team in a football match, my friend. You’re all working together.

He mentioned that he almost teared up due to the mistake in naming someone, considering it was an excellent performance.

Barantini attempted to comfort me by suggesting that perhaps my character seemed confused… I responded by saying, ‘Phil, let’s just try again. Let’s do it over’.” (This version keeps the original meaning while using simpler and more conversational language.)

The series titled “Adolescence,” featuring Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty, has made its debut with a flawless rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes (now slightly lowered to 98%).
