Channel 4’s perfect detective drama branded “a must-see” gets exciting new-season update

The popular detective show Get Millie Black, which received perfect ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, may be returning for a second season. This news comes after one of the show’s actors received a BAFTA nomination – a first for the series.

The Channel 4 series centers on Millie-Jean Black, a detective originally from Jamaica, played by Tamara Lawrance. After leaving Scotland Yard, she returns to her homeland to work with the Jamaican Police Force and reconnects with her sister, Hibiscus, portrayed by Chyna McQueen.

Billy McQueen made history as the first Black transgender actor to be nominated for a BAFTA TV Award, and it was the only nomination the show received. Now, McQueen has shared that a second season is being discussed.

The actor told Deadline that while a project isn’t currently being developed, conversations about it are happening. They expressed hope that it will move forward and encouraged fans to do the same.

The actor talked about their groundbreaking BAFTA nomination, saying people are thrilled with the recognition. They explained that after dedicating so much effort to a project in Jamaica, this nomination feels like a rewarding culmination of all their hard work, and they’re proud to see the results of their efforts.

One review in The Independent said it’s a book that can be about a lot of different things, and that’s totally true. The Spectator called it thrilling, emotional, and even said it made them think about politics – which is a pretty high compliment for a book, if you ask me!

Many crime dramas, particularly those focusing on missing girls, can feel bleak and emotionally distant. However, according to The New York Times, the show Millie feels full of life and engaging. The Irish Independent called it “riveting” and highly recommended viewing.

Get Millie Black is streaming on HBO Max in the US and Channel 4 in the UK.
