Fatboy Slim SPINS Surprise Gig at Fish & Chips Shop!
Renowned British disc jockey, Fatboy Slim, astonished spectators with an unexpected performance at a quaint eatery in Melbourne’s St. Kilda district, just minutes before the event.
As a devoted fan, I had the pleasure of grooving to the beats spun by none other than Norman Cook himself at the Northern Soul Chip Shop on a crisp Wednesday evening when the clock struck early.
Based on accounts, Cook utilized the store counter as a performance area to set up his decks, resulting in an energetic show that filled the small, spontaneous stage with life.
A Channel Nine reporter tried to conduct an interview with the artist behind “Praise You” during a performance, but he politely declined, saying, “I’m unable to chat right now as I’m busy at work, but I appreciate your interest.
According to a recent report from Nine, the store was bustling with customers following the shop owners’ promotion of the event on their Instagram page.
Cook is currently touring Down Under on his Fatboy Slim Loves Australia Tour.
On Tuesday, the friendly British man made an appearance on Channel 10’s The Project and shared with the hosts his fondness for Australia.
He often shows up unexpectedly, causing quite a bit of surprise, in the land known as Down Under… Even if I weren’t invited, I’d probably show up, stumbling like an overzealous and tipsy relative, he humorously added.
After the DJ attracted attention last August, following his comments about the controversy involving Australian breakdancer Raygun, due to a massive backlash over her controversial Olympic performance.
A peculiar performance showcasing unusual kangaroo hops and snake-like movements swiftly attracted a lot of interest on the internet.
Yet, Raygun encountered a barrage of scorn and outlandish speculations regarding her Olympic qualification, which prompted her to defend herself with a public statement.
Fatboy Slim, among other notable figures, leaped to her support and admiration, commending her dedication at the prestigious sports event.
On Friday, the well-known ex-bandmate from the popular 90s Brit pop group The Housemartins posted a heartfelt message of encouragement on Instagram for the struggling breakdancer who’s currently facing difficulties.
He likened her distinctive dance steps to the ones performed by the dancers featured in the iconic music video for the hit 90s song “Praise You,” a production by director Spike Jonze.

In the heart of bustling Los Angeles, I orchestrated an exhilarating spectacle that had passersby stopping in their tracks. As a disguised Spike and his dancing companions formed an impromptu flash mob outside a popular theater, they grooved to the upbeat rhythm of “Praise You” blaring from a nearby speaker. The sight of them breaking out with their one-of-a-kind moves was nothing short of captivating!
The group’s fervent dance routine captivated audiences, earning numerous accolades, and has even been recognized as one of the greatest music videos ever made.
Fatboy Slim posted snippets of his iconic music video and clips of Raygun dancing, pointing out the resemblances in their distinctive dance moves.
In the caption, he expressed his backing for the athlete, writing: ‘You’d have earned a perfect score, Rachael – 10/10.’
In a well-known turn of events, the “Praise You” music video featured American thespian Spike, using the alias Richard Koufey, secretly dancing together with the fictitious Torrance Community Dance Group.
Outside the Fox Bruin Theater in LA, the dance group showcased an inventive choreography to perplexed bystanders, unaware that they were unwittingly part of a future hit music video.
In 1996, Fatboy Slim’s debut album “Better Living Through Chemistry” achieved widespread success in the United Kingdom.
