Gwyneth Paltrow told intimacy coordinator to ‘step a little bit back’ during sex scenes with Timothée Chalamet

In the upcoming film “Marty Supreme,” Gwyneth Paltrow was open and candid about her scenes involving intimacy with Timothée Chalamet.

Paltrow, 52, put it bluntly: “I was like, ‘Okay, great. I’m 109 years old. You’re 14.’”

29-year-old stars Paltrow and Chalamet are featured in an upcoming film directed by Josh Safdie, which is inspired by the life of table tennis legend Martin “Marty” Reisman. Excitement swirled online following the release of pictures taken by paparazzi depicting them kissing on set in New York City during shooting in October.

In an interview with Vanity Fair for their April issue, Paltrow revealed initial details about her character, stating that she is married to someone connected to the Ping-Pong underworld. Her character interacts with Chalamet’s Marty, and they share a challenging past. She seems revitalized by him, but their relationship is more of a transaction for both parties.

Additionally, she noted that the “transactional” relationship between the characters is characterized by a significant amount of intimate scenes or sexual encounters within the film.

“There’s a lot — a lot,” she added.

Gwyneth Paltrow, known for her significant role in the #MeToo movement of 2017, admitted that she’s been hesitant about adopting one of the industry shifts that emerged during that time – the increased usage of intimacy coordinators.

Entertainment & Arts

For actors, filming sex scenes can be a job requirement — and an uncomfortable one.

“There’s now something called an intimacy coordinator, which I did not know existed,” she said.

In response to the coordinator’s query about a specific scene during the filming of “Marty Supreme”, Paltrow said, “I just replied, ‘Look, I come from a time when if you’re asked to disrobe and jump into bed with the camera rolling, that’s what you do.’

In a later statement, Paltrow said, “We suggested, ‘I believe we’re all set. You might move a bit further away,'” she added. “For artists like myself, it feels restrictive when someone provides overly specific instructions such as, ‘Then he’ll place his hand here.’

In simpler terms, Paltrow gave praise to Chalamet, who’s the newest actor to share screen time with the Academy Award-winner. He now stands alongside stars like Brad Pitt, Jude Law, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., and others in this role.

She remarked, “He’s more of an intellectual heartthrob.” She continued, “He’s incredibly well-mannered, with a background that suggests refinement. Initially, I was going to call him ‘a young man.’ However, he’s a grown man who puts great effort into his work and makes for a delightful companion.

Movies

Timothée Chalamet clinched the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award as the top male actor, marking his initial significant acting accolade, for his depiction of Bob Dylan in “A Complete Unknown.

In the movie, Paltrow’s part signifies her return to active acting after spending a significant portion of the last ten years dedicated to parenting and managing her wellness and lifestyle brand Goop. However, she has been involved in several Marvel films and played a supporting role on “The Politician” series since her role in the 2010 film “Country Strong,” which was her most recent substantial acting project according to her own words.

As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that “Marty Supreme” boasts an impressive cast, including the talented Tyler, the Creator, Fran Drescher, and Sandra Bernhard. This intriguing film from A24 is set to premiere in cinemas nationwide this Christmas Day.
