Eamonn Holmes was rushed to hospital earlier this week after suffering a suspected stroke.
GB News presenter, age 66, was hospitalized Tuesday after becoming unwell and is currently receiving treatment as an inpatient.
Eamonn was taken off the news program last month shortly after viewers became concerned by what appeared to be slurred speech and him falling asleep during a live broadcast.
He was scheduled to return to GB News on Monday, but his return has been postponed indefinitely.
GB News announced that Eamonn Holmes became ill last week and was later diagnosed with a stroke. They report he is currently recovering well with treatment.
‘Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better.
Everyone at GB News and his coworkers are wishing him a quick recovery and hope to see him back on the channel when he feels well enough.
Eamonn was scheduled to be back next week to co-host his show with Ellie Costello from Monday to Wednesday. While he’s away this week, Alex Armstrong will be filling in as host.
Angelos Frangopoulos, the CEO of GB News, stated that Eamonn is a valued part of their team and they are fully supporting him during his recovery.
Eamonn recently revealed some upsetting news about his health and expressed frustration that the television industry seems to have lost interest in him now that he’s older and uses a wheelchair, which he feels is due to ageism.
In 2016, the broadcaster had both hips replaced. However, in 2021, he experienced problems with his back, including three slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis.
Honestly, things got really tough for him the year after that – he had to undergo major spinal surgery. And unfortunately, it’s been a bit of an uphill battle with his health ever since, with a few different issues popping up over the last few years.
During his March 11th appearance on GB News’ Breakfast with Eamonn and Ellie, the presenter worried viewers when he seemed to doze off and fiddled with his microphone and phone.
Eamonn hasn’t been on the morning show recently, but it’s now been announced he’ll return on Monday, April 13th, according to The Sun.
‘There have been lots of whispers about Eamonn being off,’ an insider told the publication.
‘It’s unlike him. He lives and breathes presenting on television.’
The Daily Mail reached out to GB News on March 17th to ask about Eamonn’s absence, and they confirmed he was currently on vacation.
During an interview with Darren Jones, the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, last month, Eamonn appeared to be falling asleep on air.
As Ellie questioned Darren regarding the Mandelson files, Eamonn kept his eyes closed. Later in the conversation, he grabbed a pen and fumbled with the cap, having trouble getting it on.
At the end of the interview, Eamonn said to the audience, ‘Join us again tomorrow morning! Enjoy your day, whatever you’re doing!’
Eamonn later clapped back at claims that he was ‘falling asleep’ live on air.
The celebrity clarified things while appearing at Hayley Palmer’s ‘An Audience With…’ event at London’s Hippodrome Casino last month.
He explained he was checking his microphone because they don’t have staff to help with technical issues like that – no floor managers or camera operators are available.
‘Apparently I was sleeping? Whatever!’, according to The Mirror.
