Rachel Zegler’s Snow White Backlash Sparks Woke Controversy Again
In the spirit of loyal devotees, I find myself caught in the whirlwind of opinions surrounding Rachel Zegler and the upcoming ‘live-action’ remake of ‘Snow White.’ The controversy seems to escalate as we delve deeper into discussions about its ‘woke’ interpretation, which has ignited a fresh wave of backlash.
The $270million remake of the 1937 classic will debut this week, but has been beset by multiple controversies including lead star Zegler panning the original film for its ‘sexist’ traditional romance plot to reimagining the Seven Dwarfs as a diverse group of ‘magical creatures’ of all heights, gender and race.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve always believed that personal style is a reflection of one’s personality. However, it seems that even I can be swayed by nostalgia and iconic characters! This week, I found myself inspired by Adriana Caselotti, who lent her voice to the enchanting Snow White in the classic animated film. So, following my heart, I decided to switch up my hairstyle to channel that timeless beauty and grace. Here’s to embracing change and celebrating the magic of Disney!
Posing for a coquettish shoot with a bow in her hair and feigning laughter, Zegler wrote: ‘just had to pay homage to the original snow white, miss adriana caselotti, to whom i owe everything.’
Amid Zegler’s past heavy criticism of the film, fans took her to task on social media for her sudden u-turn.
One wrote: ‘HOMAGE!!??? She litterally hates the og Snow-White storyline

‘She said she hated the original film lmao . She is so desperate now !!!
‘Thought she hated the original?
‘Oh, the one she called weird and outdated?
‘Although she watched it once as a kid and was so “scared” she turned it off.
‘I thought she didn’t like the original….?
‘Cringe. When is she going to apologize for insulting Walt and his original film?’
Many people admired Rachel Zegler’s touching tribute to Adriana Caselotti, expressing: ‘Rachel Zegler’s homage to the first Snow White voice actress was a heartwarming moment, preserving her legacy and adding her unique charm to the role.’
‘She is fantastic…’

Earlier, Zegler explained that she turned down singing the popular tune “Some Day My Prince Will Come” from the 1937 movie, finding it peculiar that the film emphasized Snow White’s romantic relationship with a man who essentially pursues her relentlessly, which could be seen as stalking.
‘We didn’t do that this time. I was scared of the original version. I think I watched it once and never picked it up again,’ Zegler told Variety in 2022.
At the Disney expo last year, Zegler stated that her character wouldn’t be rescued by a prince. Instead, she won’t be preoccupied with dreams of true love. Rather, she’ll aspire to become the strong leader she believes she can become.
She shared with Varity that she dreams of becoming a leader, just like her late father said she would if she remained fearless, honest, courageous, and sincere. As she spoke, Gal Gadot beamed at her side.
In her critique, Zegler stated that David Hand’s 1937 animated film feels very outdated regarding the depiction of women in positions of power, and she mentioned that she has only watched it on one occasion.
‘The original cartoon came out in 1937, and very evidently so,’ she told Extra TV in 2022.
‘There’s a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird. So we didn’t do that this time.
In our film, while many might presume it’s a typical romance due to casting Andrew Burnap as Jonathan, our approach differs significantly from that assumption.
‘All of Andrew’s scenes could get cut, who knows? It’s Hollywood, baby!’ Zegler joked.
After keeping quiet about the debates surrounding her, Zegler finally addressed the controversies surrounding her upcoming live-action Snow White film that is scheduled to premiere in theaters on March 21st.
The West Side Story actress – who was recently cast in the West End musical Evita – was questioned by TMZ about the criticism towards the movie as she arrived to LAX this week on Friday.
However, the leading star of the Disney film – which is an adaptation of the classic 1937 animation – avoided giving her answer as she swiftly made her way out of the crowded airport.

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t contain my excitement when I think about Snow White finally gracing the big screen! And guess what? When I had the chance to ask Zegler herself how she felt about it, she said, “It feels absolutely fantastic, and I appreciate your enthusiasm!
Rachel – who has also been embroiled in drama over her controversial comments on the remake – was then questioned, ‘What would you say to those that are kind of just overly critiquing the film at this point? You’ve worked so hard on it.’
Rather than providing another answer, the actress swiftly made her way towards a waiting black SUV and climbed aboard.

Her latest public appearance is following news that the initial U.K. showing of “Snow White” has been cancelled, and the Hollywood premiere on Saturday has also been adjusted by Disney to prevent any potential backlash from anti-woke critics.
Her recent event takes place after it emerged that the U.K. debut of “Snow White” will not occur, as well as the Hollywood screening on Saturday being rescheduled by Disney to dodge criticism from anti-progressive groups.
Earlier this week, Disney chose to ‘scale back’ the movie’s premiere in Los Angeles, per Variety.
The screening is still slated to be held at the El Capitan Theatre with both Zegler and her co-star Gal Gadot attending. However, it is reported that ‘coverage will be limited to photographers and a house crew.’
Martin Klebba, who voiced the character of Grumpy, slammed Disney for choosing to scale back on the Hollywood premiere.
TMZ reported that the actor – who is also known for appearing in the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise – is ‘seriously bummed and a bit p****d.’
He briefly commented on the controversies surrounding the movie, as well as the political opinions of the leading stars but said it ‘shouldn’t have overshadowed everyone else’s hard work.’
He also mentioned that the event happening on Saturday won’t feature a red carpet.”
He said that there will be no red carpet at the event taking place on Saturday.
The event will take place at the El Capitan Theatre, which is quite exciting! However, it’s essentially just a pre-movie gathering, so we’ll be watching the film, but that’s all there is to it.

Martin stated, ‘They won’t have a grand celebration like, “Disney’s first film ever produced,” due to the controversy. They are cautious about potential backlash from various segments of society.’
Previously, Peter Dinklage critically responded to Disney’s remake of Snow White, referring to it as a “backward tale” about seven dwarves residing in a cave collectively.
Klebba expressed, “I generally avoid discussing politics, yet I couldn’t help but think, ‘Dwarves won’t disappear simply because they are unseen by some.’
‘We’re still going to be walking around. So I didn’t get the whole stuff about not doing the dwarfs. The story’s been around forever, and it’s a classic.’
As a follower, I’ve heard whispers that there may be some tension brewing backstage between Rachel and Gal due to differing viewpoints they hold regarding the complex Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
A source revealed to People that the two celebrities have no shared interests and their political beliefs are also at odds, which only serves to increase the tension between them.
A large scale premiere would have also taken place at Leicester Square in London, but an insider informed DailyMail.com earlier this month that a decision was made to not hold one for the upcoming movie.
‘Disney are already anticipating an anti-woke backlash against Snow White and have reduced the media schedule to just a handful of tightly controlled press events,’ the source stated.
‘That is why they have taken the highly unusual step not to host a London premiere for the film and are minimizing the amount of press questions that Rachel Zegler gets.’

Rachel has been embroiled in drama following her controversial comments on the Disney animation.
She faced criticism when she described the movie’s plot as “unusual” and referred to the prince as a “pursuer.
In one previous interview, Zegler mentioned that the upcoming movie will take a new approach, and she described Snow White as follows: “She won’t need saving by a prince and her thoughts won’t be consumed with true love.
The star also faced backlash when she was first cast as Snow White as a Latina actress.
In response to the negative reception, Rachel penned in a since-deleted post: ‘yes i am snow white no i am not bleaching my skin for the role (sic).’
It was also revealed that Disney has ‘zero faith’ in the upcoming film and that the movie bosses simply want to get the movie’s limited promo ‘over with,’ per The Hollywood Reporter.
The source stated, “A sales cycle of less than two weeks shows a lack of confidence in this product.” This is particularly problematic now, as the industry is struggling to survive until May.
However, insiders for Disney expressed that they, ‘always intended to hold back the film’s big promotional push until the final few weeks, beginning when Zegler and Gadot presented together at the Oscars on March 2.’
On Wednesday, Rachel made an appearance at a secret premiere for Snow White which was held at a remote castle in Segovia – a city located north west of Madrid.

A rather intimate European gathering, attended by approximately 100 high-profile individuals, encompassed both families and content producers.
Zegler had the chance to sing Waiting On A Wish for the crowd – but was not joined by any of her other Snow White castmates, such as Gal Gadot.
As an over-the-moon devotee, I can’t help but share the buzz from my trusted sources: it seems Disney is in a pickle, grappling with the “uncontainable” energy that is Zegler!
‘Disney’s lead actress is out of control. They don’t know what to do,’ an insider told the outlet.
She’s a vocal young woman who has been openly expressing her opinions on various matters, and Disney executives have reached out to her personally, asking her to moderate her online expressions. However, despite their requests being communicated through her management, she seems unresponsive to their advice.
The source mentioned, ‘Throughout the entire filming process, things have been like this. However, connecting her political views to Snow White is causing controversy.’
Late last year in November, separate sources claimed that Disney bosses viewed Rachel as a ‘loose cannon.’
At the time, Zegler had slammed Donald Trump voters – but later issued an apology for hoping that ‘Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace.’
A source revealed to DailyMail.com, “They wish they could silence her now, but it’s already past. Discussions about replacing Rachel from her role occurred frequently during filming in 2022.”

‘She is a loose cannon and caused issues during the production because she didn’t agree with how the film plot strayed from the classic movie’s plot.’
They added that before filming, Zegler ‘read the script. If she didn’t like it then she should have not taken it. It wasn’t until after the film was wrapped that she really started creating drama.
‘She has been a nightmare but there is nothing they can do to control what she says. Everyone is well-aware of how difficult she is.’
The source added, ‘Given the current situation, postponing the release of the movie is no longer an option. Despite widespread belief that her latest remarks and scandals may harm the film, it’s unlikely.’
‘If anything, it generates more publicity and attention to the film, which leads to increased ticket sales. The film is Snow White, and it could really sell with anyone in the lead.’
While talking to Vogue Mexico, Rachel opened up about the backlash that Snow White has received.
She expressed that the public’s reactions towards this movie are deeply felt enthusiasm. It’s truly an esteemed privilege to contribute to something that stirs such strong emotions in people, she stated, reflecting on her translation from Spanish.

‘Everyone doesn’t necessarily share our emotions all the time, but what we can do is offer our best to those around us.’
Zegler also told the outlet, ‘I understand that the community doesn’t want to be seen as a monolith, but the reality of being Latino and working in this industry is that we try to represent the entire diaspora.
‘I know where I have been, I represent it in my narrative and I carry it in my heart every day.’
In regards to the 1937 classic and the live-action remake, Rachel explained, ‘It’s very important for the public to know that Disney has found this beautiful and delicate balance between the animated classic that everyone knows and loves from 1937, and at the same time, introduces it to this new generation.’
