Will Smith has confirmed his return to music with his first album release in 20 years.
Set for release on March 28, the new album Based On A True Story features 14 new tracks from Smith alongside some recognisable names.
On Instagram, Smith posted a snapshot of his latest album cover, accompanied by the song list and exclusive glimpses from the album cover shoot behind the scenes.
He captioned the post: “It’s OFFICIAL!! My new album Based On A True Story drops March 28. TWO WEEKS!! Hit that presave. Been working on this project for a minute and I’m itchin’ to get it out to y’all 🫶🏾”.
According to the tracklist, the new album features guest musicians such as Teyana Taylor, Smith’s son Jaden and his longtime collaborator and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air co-star DJ Jazzy Jeff.
Smith has already released 4 out of the 14 tracks from the album as singles including ‘Beautiful Scars’ (featuring Big Sean and OBanga), ‘Work of Art’ (featuring Jaden), ‘Tantrum’ (featuring Joyner Lucas), and ‘You Can Make It’.

Fans also took the comments to share their delight, with one fan writing: “This is major! Will Smith did the unthinkable in 2025 – reviving his relevance in the music industry after a 20-year hiatus, something no major label could accomplish.”
“You have no idea how big of a deal this is for me. I’ve been waiting forever for this. Can’t wait,” penned another.
Based On A True Story is released on March 28.
