Sarah Michelle Gellar shares update on Buffy the Vampire Slayer return

Sarah Michelle Gellar shared some thrilling news with Buffy fans, hinting that the revival of the show is moving along at a quicker pace than she had initially anticipated.

In February, it was revealed that the popular vampire slayer series will be continued on Hulu, with Sarah Michelle Gellar potentially returning to play the leading character, but not as the main protagonist this time around.

Last week, Gellar indicated that the series is progressing smoothly, but she urged fans to remain patient.

Gellar stated in an interview with People that since they have established their offices, things seem to be moving at a pace faster than expected. However, he cautioned that it would still be a gradual process, he believes.

“To do it the way it needs to be done, everyone has to be patient with all of us, because this isn’t something that [will just happen],” she added.

The upcoming series will have Eternals‘ Chloé Zhao direct and executive produce the pilot, with Nora and Lilla Zuckerman serving as main writers, showrunners and executive producers.

Dolly Parton, who was an uncredited producer on the original series, is also returning.

Weighing in on the decision to reprise the role of Buffy despite previous doubts, Gellar credited Buffy producer Gail Berman for introducing her to Zhao, a fan of the OG show.

As a gamer, I’ve always felt the pull of the Buffy universe and your requests to revisit it, but I couldn’t take on the challenge unless I knew we could do it justice,” Gellar stated last month.

“I feel so lucky to be on this journey with these four unbelievably talented women, all of whom love Buffy as much as I do. And as much as you do. Thank you to all the fans who never stopped asking for this. This will be for you.”

Buffy the Vampire Slayer can be streamed in full on Disney+.
