The popular Netflix romance series Bridgerton has returned for a fourth season! The first four episodes premiered on January 29th, and the remaining four will be available on February 26th. Like previous seasons, this installment is based on a novel by Julia Quinn, focusing on the romantic lives of the eight Bridgerton siblings – and occasionally their family members. Get ready for eight episodes filled with drama, romance, and the unique social world of the show.
Season 4 will primarily follow Benedict’s story, but expect events from Season 3 to still have an impact. It’s been almost two years since the last season, so here’s a quick recap of everything important from Season 3 to get you ready for Season 4.
Where we last saw an aimless Benedict

Benedict, known for being a bit of a charming troublemaker, found himself attracted to a free-spirited widow who accepted his bisexuality. They began a relationship involving another partner, but when she wanted to become exclusive, he wasn’t ready to commit. At the same time, Benedict was actively avoiding his artistic pursuits and any real responsibilities, though he surprisingly managed the family estate competently whenever his brother, the viscount, was away on his honeymoon.
He ends the third season by telling Eloise he’ll see her at their mother’s masquerade ball, hinting that more secrets will be revealed in the Bridgerton world – Whistledown is just the beginning.
All the married Bridgerton siblings

Daphne and Simon have been living happily ever after, mostly out of view of the story. Anthony and Kate experienced a much more peaceful life in Season 3, and their plan to travel to India so their child can connect with Kate’s heritage suggests they will likely have a limited role in Season 4, similar to Daphne and Simon’s absence last season.
Season 3 of Bridgerton featured weddings for both Francesca and Colin. Francesca found love with the kind and reserved John Stirling, the Earl of Kilmartin, and they shared a private wedding at home. We also meet John’s cousin, Michaela, who quickly catches Francesca’s eye. Meanwhile, Colin finally realizes his long-held feelings for Penelope Featherington, and she happily reciprocates—though their happiness is complicated by Penelope’s secret identity as the scandalous Lady Whistledown, someone Colin used to dislike. The season ends with the arrival of a new baby boy, who will inherit the Featherington title.
Lady Whistledown is revealed to the ton

After Penelope’s powerful speech about gossip and her promise to use it more carefully, Colin admits he no longer hates Lady Whistledown. Now that everyone knows Penelope is Lady Whistledown, there’s a question of how being openly known will change the kind of information she can get and publish.
Lady Danbury’s storyline (and the Queen’s)

I absolutely love how the show developed Lady Danbury and Queen Charlotte! In the books, Lady Danbury was fun, but a smaller role, and there wasn’t really a strong queenly figure at all. But on screen, they’ve become this incredible power couple with so much influence. It was amazing watching Queen Charlotte go after Lady Whistledown in Season 3, and Lady Danbury cleverly guiding her to focus on the important people, especially Francesca. Now that Lady Whistledown’s secret is out, I’m so curious to see what will capture the Queen’s interest next, and how Lady Danbury will play a part in it all!
Penelope and Eloise are friends again

These two friends don’t stay upset with each other for long. After a major falling out in Season 3 – caused by Eloise discovering Penelope’s secret as Lady Whistledown – they put aside their differences to help the Bridgerton family. Now that they’re friends again, it’s a relief! But their friendship will be different now that Penelope is married and has a higher social standing, while Eloise doesn’t. It makes you wonder what their relationship will look like going forward.
We’re also likely to learn more about Eloise’s future. Like Benedict, she seems unsure of what she wants, fluctuating between rejecting society and craving acceptance. She goes back and forth between avoiding Penelope and spending time with the popular Cressida Cowper, and even realizes she enjoys talking to other debutantes occasionally. By the end of the season, she declares she’s finished trying to fit in. Eloise joins Francesca on her trip to Scotland, hoping to experience the world she’s so eager to improve.
Cressida is gone

Cressida Cowper, known for being unkind and isolated in London’s high society, faced consequences at the end of the third season. After falsely claiming to be Lady Whistledown in a failed attempt to get money from the Queen, and then trying to blackmail Penelope after discovering Penelope’s secret identity, Cressida’s plans were ruined when Penelope revealed herself as Whistledown. As a result, her father sent her away to live with a distant, unhappy aunt in Wales, effectively ending her social life.
Violet Bridgerton’s garden is in bloom

The show includes a playful metaphor for Violet Bridgerton rediscovering her sexuality. She develops an interest in Lady Danbury’s brother, initially expressed as wanting him to help with her garden. Once Lady Danbury and her brother reconcile, Violet is free to pursue a romantic connection with him. We wish her well!
The Mondriches are rising up in the world

Do you remember Will and Alice Mondrich? They started as a boxer and his wife in Season 1, then became club owners in Season 2. In Season 3, their eldest son unexpectedly inherited a noble title and estate from a relative, changing their lives. We’re hoping Season 4 will show us how they’re adapting to this new life as nobility.
