Sunrise Hosts Embarrassing Live Fail: Can’t Connect with Contest Winner!
On Monday, the Channel Seven breakfast program Sunrise encountered a significant mishap when hosts Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington faced difficulties in interacting with a competition winner.
The co-hosts rang up a viewer in regional Victoria to inform him they had won 250,000 Qantas Points and a $1,000 bp fuel voucher.
Nevertheless, the duo found themselves blushing when Rene, a resident of Benalla, struggled to hear them and requested that they repeated themselves multiple times.
Currently, our producer is making a call to them on the phone. Let’s all hold our breath in anticipation!” said an enthusiastic Shirvo as they were connecting him with the lucky winner.
Hello there! Is that René? Nat inquired, but the bewildered winner replied, “I’m afraid I can’t make out your voice. I’m unsure of what’s going on.
Later on, Nat enthusiastically spoke up to René: “Are you able to hear us now? Since you’ve just won 250,000 Qantas points!

Regrettably, he was unable to grasp what the hosts were saying and replied, “I must apologize, but I can’t make out what you’re saying.
‘Oh, this is going so well! Just whack your TV on because you have won!’ a frustrated Shirvo said.
The team member passed a slip of paper to Nat, which had ‘Won’ written on it. She displayed it to the camera, allowing Rene to comprehend the situation at last.
‘Oh, this is so great! I just wish I could hear you. This is so amazing,’ he told them.
The co-hosts then mimed a plane taking off as they asked him where he wanted to travel to.
After some struggle, Rene told them he wanted to go to Perth to visit his grandchildren.
Nat made a heart shape with her hands while saying, “I think you will really like it there,” and then displayed another piece of paper that read ‘Congratulations’ to him.
‘Let’s hope the pilots have better communication with the tower when they are landing,’ Shirvo quipped after the call ended.

It was revealed in August that Sunrise maintained its multi-year dominance as the top-ranked breakfast program in Australia.
The program beat Channel Nine’s Today with a 43.2 per cent share of the metro audience on average throughout 2024 – 2.4 points ahead of its rival.
The victory for Seven is especially sweet since Nine was expected to edge ahead in the ratings war after Today played a prominent role in the network’s coverage of the Olympics.
According to TV Tonight, the latest Total TV figures show Sunrise has averaged a national audience of 389,100 in the calendar year.
Today, Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo were the hosts, and the program amassed a total TV viewership of 325,300 during that time frame.
The national Total TV ratings combine the metro survey with viewers in regional centres and fans catching the show using broadcast-on-demand platforms.
Additionally, Sunrise amassed approximately 3.1 million viewers across various social media outlets. As of now, they have accumulated around 1.58 million views on YouTube since the beginning of their content.
Weekend Sunrise has been attracting a significant audience, averaging 383,700 Total TV viewers so far this year, compared to Today’s 287,600.
