Walton Goggins’ new movie brings an “insane true story” to life: Watch the first trailer
The new movie “The Luckiest Man in America,” featuring Walton Goggins and Paul Walter Hauser, has unveiled its official trailer.
The fact-based drama tells the story of Michael Larson (Hauser), an ice-cream truck driver who, in 1984, won a record-breaking haul of over $110,000 on game show Press Your Luck, only to be subsequently accused of cheating.
Ahead of its theatrical release next month, the first trailer for the film has been released, showcasing Larson’s success on the show opposite host Peter Tomarken (Goggins). As his winnings increase, he starts to come under pressure from producers and studio executives.
Billed as an “insane true story”, The Luckiest Man in America also stars David Strathairn, Maisie Williams, Shamier Anderson, Haley Bennett and Johnny Knoxville, with director Samir Oliveros penning the script alongside Maggie Briggs.
The film had its world premiere at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival back in September, with its US theatrical release beginning on April 4. There is currently no word on a UK release, though it did play at the 21st Glasgow Film Festival earlier this month.
Goggins, who has previously appeared in Justified and Fallout, is currently starring in the third season of HBO’s anthology series The White Lotus. In a recent interview, the actor – who plays the mysterious Rick Hatchett – shared that he was bitten by a snake during filming.
He explained that he was extremely afraid of snakes and had the snake handler keep a safe distance from him when they were filming because the first time he ever picked up a snake, it made him cry uncontrollably. The handlers guided him through the experience, warning him not to touch a specific cage as the snake inside would be deadly.
I initially grabbed the green snake, but it didn’t want to leave its hiding place. As I continued to pull it out, the snake suddenly bit me. To this day, I haven’t shared that experience with anyone else… However, I did end up going to the hospital and receiving a tetanus shot.
The Luckiest Man in America is released on April 4 in the US; there is currently no UK release date.
