Bridgerton’s Phoebe Dynevor lands next lead movie role in romantic thriller

Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor has landed her next lead film role, with the actor joining the cast for M Night Shyamalan’s new project.

According to Deadline, Dynevor – who played Daphne Bridgerton in the first two seasons of the Netflix period show – will star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in an untitled “supernatural romantic thriller”, which sees Shyamalan collaborate with novelist Nicholas Sparks.

According to the report, Shyamalan and Sparks will “independently” work on a screenplay and novel, with each draft being based on the same, original idea. The projects will include the same “concept and set of characters”, with the content being “tailored” to their respective mediums.

There are no specific details on the nature of the story, though it has been confirmed that Shyamalan will produce through his company, Blinding Edge Pictures. Sparks, whose previously adapted works include The Notebook and Dear John, will also produce.

The untitled film is part of a growing list of upcoming projects for Dynevor, with the star also set to appear in Beneath the Storm, Anniversary and Famous; her recent roles include Fair Play and Inheritance.

The actor, who has also had roles in Waterloo Road and Dickensian, has previously spoken about the lack of roles for young women in the industry, adding that she would love a producing role in the future to enable greater opportunities.

“I probably shouldn’t be saying this, but there is still not that many parts going,” she said. “There is such a space for male actors… there are so many of them. And they’re all great. They’re all very talented young men, they do not stop working, and good for them.

“But when I think about girls my age… there’s way more room for them [men] and still not enough room for us. It’s a really good time for older women which is amazing and there’s a lot for these young men, but not a lot for the actresses that I know in my age bracket.

My goal is to eventually produce something. There are certain materials I believe are lacking, and I aspire to create them someday, though I’m not sure when that day will come.

Bridgerton seasons 1-3 are streaming on Netflix, along with Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
