Grey’s Anatomy forces its interns to bond and its attendings to face reality

This post contains spoilers for Grey’s Anatomy Season 21, episode 10: “Jump (For My Love).”

Tensions are running high going into this week’s Grey’s Anatomy episode. Per usual, everyone is about to be forced to face their true feelings and resolve some of the outstanding interpersonal conflicts threatening to impact their work at Grey Sloan — and some intrapersonal ones as well. Teddy and Owen are out of the picture this week, but this leaves even more room for the interns (and Ellen Pompeo) to shine.

First, Bailey is hosting a “retreat” at her home for the interns. Simone and Jules, still in a mostly silent feud after last week’s events, are forced to spend time together while suffering through team building exercises. Eventually Jules is forced to confront her grief, and by the end of the episode, the two are on their way to becoming friends again.

Meredith is back at Grey Sloan, where she crosses paths with Richard (who still isn’t speaking to her after keeping Catherine’s medical history a secret. But the two are forced to work together on a case involving one of Catherine’s former colleagues, and together they discover that the situation is much more dire — and ethically questionable — than they were told.

On their way to retrieve a donor heart and liver, Winston and Ben come across a daughter begging for help after her father suffered serious injuries in a bike accident. After spending the day with Ben — saving multiple lives, it turns out — Winston decides that it’s time to seriously think about dating again after how things ended with Maggie. That doesn’t work out for him in this episode, but the season is young.

And finally, Jo and Link are treating a patient with spinal cord injuries after she jumped off a bridge — to retrieve her expensive wedding ring during her divorce party, of course. Witnessing her loving interactions with her friends has a huge effect on Link. Because he goes home after the long day, tells Jo she’s his best friend, and promptly asks her to marry him. And she says yes!

Happy endings are rare in the Grey’s universe, but we’ll take what we can get.
