Inside the Luxe Sydney Mansion Where The Golden Bachelor is Filmed
It’s been revealed that one of Sydney’s iconic waterfront treasures serves as the hidden set for Channel Nine’s forthcoming dating show, The Golden Bachelor.
The elegant Tresco mansion, situated in the harborside suburb of Elizabeth Bay and crafted by colonial architect Thomas Rowe from 1867 to 1883, has stood as a timeless emblem of refinement for many years.
Initially built as a personal residence for Rowe, it subsequently functioned as the formal dwelling for Navy rear admirals for approximately 90 years. In 1997, it was sold to private owners for around $9 million.
In the early 1860s, a grand sandstone mansion boasting tall ceilings and generous spaces now buzzes with action as movie-making gear is strategically placed across its expansive 3300 square meter estate.
Although there’s no confirmation that host Samantha Armytage is at her home, it didn’t take long for locals to spot the appearance of filming gear nearby.
This stunning property has a remarkable past, featuring an important $11 million transaction in the year 2004 to Janette Waterhouse, spouse of the businessman David Waterhouse.
Currently, it functions as a spacious seven-bedroom, four-bathroom property and is officially listed as David’s residential address in the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) records.
The stunning setting, just steps away from numerous facilities and boasting captivating ocean vistas, makes it an ideal filming spot for Channel Nine’s upcoming television series.
In the previous year, I found myself astounded as the magnificent property I had been following was put up for sale with an astonishing asking price ranging from $110 million to $120 million.
I was taken aback by the sudden development, and although it falls under the jurisdiction of private property regulations, the Sydney City Council has launched investigations to gather more information about the project.
In my line of work as a lifestyle expert, I always stress the importance of proper planning when it comes to shooting films on private property. While you might not need council approval per se, you definitely should have a thorough filming management plan in place to ensure everything runs smoothly and respectfully.
This involves outlining practical details such as the number of crew members required, setting up temporary facilities, and assessing potential effects on the nearby environment.
Instead of shows like The Bachelor and The Bachelorette that cater to younger participants seeking romance, the Golden Bachelor is designed for an older demographic, focusing on individuals who have previously encountered deep love and heartbreak as they pursue new companionship.
The filming process has begun, as it appears that Abbie Chatfield’s 65-year-old mother Laura is joining the cast. This group of mature women are vying for the affection of Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden in a competition to find love.

Last November, there were reports suggesting that The Golden Bachelor was unconventionally seeking out potential contestants.
At Royal Randwick racecourse in Sydney, a talent scout for the show was seen distributing business cards to the participants.
As a devoted follower, I decided to take an unconventional approach when scouting for talent for our upcoming spin-off series – by reaching out to attendees at horse races instead of the usual casting calls.
In Australia, the rights for the popular reality dating show, The Golden Bachelor, have been acquired by nine, and television personality Samantha Armytage is set to be its host.

Samantha got involved with the casting call, urging people to give family members ‘a nudge.’
The longtime host of Farmer Wants A Wife, who was recently with Seven Network, surprised viewers when she decided to leave after 21 years, leading to numerous speculations about her future plans.
At Nine’s Upfronts event in November, it was announced that she had been given a new TV role on The Golden Bachelor for their 2025 programming lineup, which was presented to invited attendees.
The American adaptation of the show has achieved tremendous success; its last episode attracted a massive audience of 6.1 million viewers, marking the highest viewership for an ending episode within the American version of The Bachelor series since 2021.
