Cher Confirms Return for Mamma Mia 3 Sequel!

Cher will be in a sequel to one of her biggest hit films.

This week, Amanda Seyfried shared with E News that the legendary singer will be featured in Mamma Mia 3, as they had previously appeared together in the 2018 film Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again.

Actress from Mean Girls, aged 39, stated: “Cher will undoubtedly be part of it. At this stage, I can’t imagine doing it without her.

However, the movie isn’t quite at the point yet where someone could write Mama Mia 3, as she humorously suggested.

In November, Cher expressed that the possibility of reprising her role as Ruby Sheridan in Mamma Mia! 3 is quite strong, and she’s eager to step back into that character once more, playing the mother to Donna (portrayed by both Meryl Streep and Lily James), and the grandmother to Sophie (Amanda Seyfried).

The Academy Award winner mentioned to Entertainment Weekly that there are discussions taking place regarding this topic, although I’m unsure of the exact timing, as they haven’t revealed it yet, but I can confirm that it’s under consideration.

Apart from stating confidently to E News, “Mamma Mia 3 is definitely on its way,” Amanda playfully added, “You can expect this sequel on the big screen before the year 2038.

Afterward, she remarked: ‘Indeed, that’s the only thing I can affirm for sure.’ During the interview, Amanda was promoting her upcoming Peacock series titled Long Bright River.

Amanda also wants Streep back even though her character died in 2018’s Mamma Mia Here We Go Again.

Streep played Donna Sheridan-Carmichael.

I can’t help but gush about it – that was an unforgettable rollercoaster ride and an absolute blast, I must say! Truth be told, I jumped at the chance to work on this musical sensation since Mary Louise (Streep) was involved, and she’s someone I adore beyond words. The thought of playing her mother had me in stitches!

During the interview, Cher persistently urged Meryl Streep to return by saying, “Come back, Meryl,” she emphasized.

Over a year after Judy Craymer, the mastermind behind the musical and the two films, subtly suggested the potential for another movie, the star of Turn Back Time expresses her wish for a third installment.

In its initial development phases, Craymer hinted to Deadline about the possibility of a second Mamma Mia sequel. He mentioned that there’s a tale to tell, and he believes Meryl Streep might reprise her role – and if the script is compelling, she likely would, as she genuinely enjoyed portraying Donna.

In addition to Streep, she also proposes a third movie that would reunite beloved characters like Cher’s Ruby and Seyfried’s Sophie.

2008’s Mamma Mia!, helmed by director Phyllida Lloyd and written by Catherine Johnson, was a massive success among audiences, earning an impressive $611.5 million globally on a production budget of only $52 million.

Besides Seyfried, Streep, and Pierce Brosnan, the cast also included Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Julie Walters, Dominic Cooper, and Christine Baranski.
