Grammy-Winning Rapper Arrested on Felony Weapons Charge in LA
Rapper Jay Rock has been arrested in Los Angeles.
39-year-old artist famed for working with Kendrick Lamar, was apprehended by the Los Angeles Police Department on Thursday.
In the late afternoon, approximately at 6 pm, a Grammy-winning artist, whose given name is Johnny Reed McKinzie, was reportedly approached by law enforcement officials for suspected trespassing and public intoxication near the Nickerson Gardens public housing development in Watts, as stated by KNBC.
Rock grew up in the complex along with Top Dawg Entertainment founder Anthony Tiffith.
The officers who made the arrest reported that Rock attempted to flee on foot after leaving his vehicle. However, they quickly apprehended him.
In my investigation as a lifestyle expert, I discovered a firearm during a search of a vehicle, which resulted in my own arrest on suspicion of violating a felony weapons law.

Rock was booked into the Los Angeles County jail shortly after 8pm and held overnight.
2009 saw the Black Hippy label founder being apprehended over a shooting in his Watts community. However, due to pending warrants, he was held in custody. Eventually, he was exonerated regarding this particular incident.
In 2020, Rock teamed up with fellow artist Anderson.Paak for Lockdown.
The single protested the death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer.
He is also known for his 2015 album 90059.
Back in February 2016, I found myself in a harrowing near-death experience due to a motorcycle accident. Afterward, I endured long months of recovery from a fractured pelvis and a broken leg.
In June 2016, when asked by Billboard, he explained that his actions were typical for a man and at the time, he was riding a bicycle. He also mentioned that unfortunate incidents can occur.
Through divine favor, he shielded me throughout the journey. I needed about two weeks to return because, as you might guess, it’s tough to subdue someone powerful so quickly.

On his 2018 album Redemption, the artist shared details about the accident, featuring SZA on the song titled “Redemption.” (In this version, I’ve restructured the sentence to make it more straightforward and easier to understand.)
During a chat with Billboard about their latest album, the successful artist confessed that leaving behind street life wasn’t straightforward.
He shared his background, talking about the challenges and hardships he faced while starting out as a rapper in his neighborhood. He confessed that he struggled with this decision, unsure whether to continue rapping or remain involved in street life. Essentially, he was caught between two worlds.
1. “I kept finding myself drawn back into that environment, yet engaging in less than desirable activities. But the music, it captivated me so deeply. It seemed as if the music was calling the shots. Truly, it rescued me from a difficult place. And here I am today.”
2. “I’d get pulled back to that scene, and I wasn’t always making the best choices. But then came the music – it swept me off my feet. It felt like the music was orchestrating everything. Honestly, it was a lifesaver for me. And here I stand.”
3. “I’d get sucked back into that lifestyle, not always doing what was right. Yet, there was this music – it enchanted me so profoundly. It felt like the music was dictating the rhythm of my life. Truthfully, it saved me from a dark place. And here I am.”
4. “I’d find myself lured back to that world, not always making wise decisions. Yet, the music – it bewitched me so powerfully. It seemed as if the music was conducting the symphony of my life. In truth, it saved me from a desperate situation. And now I’m here.”
5. “I kept getting pulled back to that scene, not always making the best moves. But then there was this music – it enthralled me completely. It felt like the music was leading the dance of my life. To be honest, it rescued me from a challenging phase. And here I stand.”
