Naomie Harris Backs Regé-Jean Page for Next Bond and Reveals Oscar Nomination Regrets!

48-year-old British actress, known for portraying Eve Moneypenny in three 007 films, expressed her enthusiasm about a potential new co-star who is rumored to be among the candidates vying for the famous role, alongside Theo James, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Josh O’Connor.

During her captivating photoshoot for Harper’s Bazaar UK, she mentioned to the magazine, “I was alongside Regé-Jean Page in a black ensemble, and let me tell you, he wears a suit exceptionally well.

Naomie, who radiated elegance in a series of stylish evening dresses, expressed concern over Amazon’s acquisition of the cherished spy franchise. She voiced her hope that they would avoid making James Bond too contemporary.

Reflecting: ‘From our childhood, we’ve known Bond, and I believe it should retain those timeless aspects so that audiences can identify with it.’

In a different part of the interview, she explained that the 2017 Best Supporting Actress nomination for the drama “Moonlight” was “absolutely not her desired outcome.

In the Oscar-winning film, Naomie portrayed Chiron’s drug-addicted mother Paula, propelling her into the limelight of award shows.

Reflecting on the past, she mentioned, “It felt somewhat like running a political campaign, but that wasn’t why I entered acting. To be honest, I’m not keen on self-promotion, and there I was, promoting a movie I completed in just three days for a span of nine months.

If that peak in my career is what was intended, it was absolutely not where I desired to reach.

Previously, she expressed to The Guardian her feelings of being deeply disappointed after spending several months promoting the movie globally, to the point where she almost decided to leave the entertainment industry.

Confessing: ‘I had reached a point of exhaustion; I required a pause, feeling as though I no longer wished to be an actress. In fact, my thoughts were leaning towards opening a nail salon with a friend.’

Supporters of James Bond were apprehensive that Amazon Studios might tarnish the legendary character following their acquisition of the franchise rights for approximately £770 million, which they bought from the custodians of Bond, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson.

Despite rumors suggesting a change in gender or nationality for the iconic James Bond character, internal memos leaked to staff by the media company and published by The Mail on Sunday, indicate that the bosses plan to keep Bond male and British.

According to a source, Amazon intends to preserve the essence of James Bond by ensuring that the character remains either British or from a Commonwealth country, and is male.

They mentioned: ‘Jeff holds a deep affection for the Bond series, and although he’s thrilled about Amazon’s plans to develop it further, there are some aspects that must remain inviolable.’

Among the legendary performances in Hollywood, some notable actors who portrayed the smooth, intensely focused, and irresistibly attractive secret agents are Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, and Timothy Dalton.

In the last fifteen years, Daniel Craig has embodied the character of Bond, a martini-sipping action star, in five films. He was the one who played this role.

After Craig retired from acting in 2021, people have been proposing a variety of actors as potential successors for the role of James Bond. Some of these names include Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Richard Madden, and even Henry Cavill, who is best known for playing Superman.

At some point, it was also proposed to Brosnan, known for portraying the fictitious British secret agent in four movies between the 90s and the early 2000s, whether he’d be interested in reprising his role.

But it seems the bookies’ favourite for the role is rising Brit talent, Aaron Taylor-Johnson. 

007 enthusiasts went into a flurry when The Sun announced in March 2022 that he was formally extended an offer for the role, contingent on his acceptance.

Since that point, Taylor-Johnson, who is 34 years old, has been evading queries regarding her potential involvement in the cherished spy series.

During a December premiere of his superhero film “Kraven the Hunter”, he chuckled when Entertainment Tonight enquired about fan reactions to whispers about his potential part.

Additionally, Idris Elba, renowned for his role as Luther, was one of the top choices. In a survey of 2,000 British residents, he was voted as their preferred candidate for the next James Bond character.

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t contain my excitement as Igor Elba himself has finally spoken up about the speculation surrounding his potential role as the next James Bond!

During an appearance on Chris Moyles’ Radio X morning show in April, Idris Elba clarified that he wouldn’t be taking over from Craig as the next James Bond, explaining that the question has been posed to him “nearly a million times” regarding the speculation.

He stated that the rumor is no longer active, and added humorously, ‘I must admit, I’ve grown quite old. I’m unsure what kind of Bond character I would portray now.’

He insisted he was not even interested in joining the famed franchise as a villain. 

In August 2022, it was announced that Idris Elba had decided to step back from prolonged negotiations with film executives and assumed the iconic role instead.

Originally tipped as the likely successor for Craig in the role of James Bond, he expresses a strong interest in exploring different opportunities and has actually presented a roster of potential candidates to producer Barbara Broccoli for consideration.

A source told The Sun: ‘Fans and Barbara wanted Idris but he wants to create something for himself.
