Doctor Who Star Ncuti Gatwa Spotted Post-Gym: Is He Leaving the Show?

On Thursday, Ncuti Gatwa presented a stylish athletic image, marking his first public appearance since news broke that he may be stepping down from his lead role in Doctor Who.

The well-known actor from Sex Education, allegedly shooting his departure scene as part of a character regeneration, was recently seen exiting a fitness session in London with a weightlifting squat mat under his arm.

Preferring a quiet public image, the 32-year-old actor chose an all-black ensemble consisting of a quarter zip sweater, track pants, and a black baseball hat.

He finished off his appearance with a pair of white New Balance sneakers, slung his hoodie over his shoulder as he carried it.

News has emerged that Doctor Who may be discontinued, and it seems Ncuti Gatwa could be on the brink of leaving as well.

Recently, the popular science fiction series has experienced a significant decline in viewership, allegedly due to viewers growing tired of the introduction of socially progressive narratives.

Back in the year 2023, I proudly stepped into the world of “Doctor Who” following the departure of Jodie Whittaker as our beloved Time Lord. However, whispers are swirling around that I might soon bid adieu to this iconic BBC production after merely two seasons.

Reports indicate that the fate of the show won’t be determined until after Ncuti’s second season premieres later this year, which is in the hands of the show’s executives.

There are rumors suggesting that Ncuti’s Regeneration exit scene has been filmed, and some teams working on the show are concerned because if true, this might mark the conclusion of the series following an impressive 62-year run.

According to a source, Ncuti Gatwa has no intention of continuing with the show past its current run and is planning to move to Los Angeles, where he has several film projects waiting for him.

‘Additionally, his team is experiencing significant criticism from fans due to the series, and they aim to prevent the ongoing association of him with the character of The Doctor from affecting any potential future projects.’

They went on to say, ‘In the past few years, the management of the show has been less than effective. Many dedicated individuals who have worked on this project for quite some time are now being overlooked due to inadequate leadership.’

An anonymous source mentioned that some individuals had expressed concerns that the episodes were excessively preoccupied with an agenda, instead of effectively narrating a tale. It seemed as though these voices were dismissed or overlooked.

TopMob previously contacted representatives of BBC and Ncuti for comment.

Recently, I had the thrill of discovering that the second season trailer for Doctor Who was unveiled earlier this month, packing quite a punch with its unexpected celebrity appearances.

People have been eagerly waiting for it, but mark your calendars! The much-awaited second season will premiere this coming Saturday, April 12, exclusively on BBC and BBC iPlayer within the United Kingdom.

Participants are invited to embark on a grand adventure along with The Doctor, portrayed by Ncuti, and Belinda Chandra, played by Varada Sethu. Their mission is to return Belinda to Earth.

However, an enigmatic power prevents their arrival back home, forcing the Time Lord’s TARDIS crew to confront perilous challenges, relentless adversaries, and horrors more untamed than ever.

The trailer introduces renowned special guests such as Rylan, aged 36, a well-known figure from X Factor, who will portray himself in the role of the co-host of the Intergalactic Music Competition.

Additionally, you’ll find actor Alan Cumming, aged 60, lending his voice to the wicked cartoon figure known as Mr Ring-a-Ding.

In the trailer, some new faces joining the Doctor, Belinda (Millie Gibson), and Ruby Sunday on their adventures are Anita Dobson, Bonnie Langford, Jemma Redgrave, Caoilfhionn Dunne, Christopher Chung, Evelyn Miller, Ariyon Bakare, Julie Dray, and Jonah Hauer-King.

Or, simply:
The trailer showcases other actors who will join the Doctor, Belinda (Millie Gibson), and Ruby Sunday on their journeys, including Anita Dobson, Bonnie Langford, Jemma Redgrave, Caoilfhionn Dunne, Christopher Chung, Evelyn Miller, Ariyon Bakare, Julie Dray, and Jonah Hauer-King.

Upon hearing the announcement, Rylan excitedly shared that as an avid Doctor Who fan, he had long cherished the dream of being part of the show.

This episode encapsulates everything I adore about this series, complete with a space-themed song competition. To put it simply, it’s living up to every fan’s dreams.

‘I can’t wait for everyone to see it. It really is going to be out of this world.’
