Gritty Welsh prison drama branded “brilliant” confirms season 2 return to BBC iPlayer with first look
Welsh prison drama Bariau is getting a season 2 at S4C and BBC iPlayer.
In January 2024, the bilingual show made its debut, and now it’s coming back with more episodes featuring Barry Hardy, the top inmate in prison, along with other characters from both the legal and illegal realms.
Starting from April 13th, I’m thrilled to jump back into the world of my favorite series for its new six-episode season! This time around, we’ll be right there with Barry as he confronts a painful childhood trauma, striving to leave it behind and start anew.
In addition to the ongoing characters, the upcoming chapter will feature some newcomers. Specifically, Alicia Forde from “Waterloo Road” and Sion Alun Davies have been added to the cast as prison guards named Chloe and Simon respectively. The actors are seen in character for the first time in the exclusive season 2 previews.
In the meantime, actor William Young takes on the character of inmate Jac, while Ian Puleston-Davies is added to the cast, playing a yet unspecified role.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to be joining forces with Tegid, who originally brought Barry to life in the Welsh soap opera “Rownd a Rownd,” which premiered in 1995. In the upcoming season 2 of “Bariau,” we’ll see familiar faces from season 1 reappearing for another round of captivating episodes.
In this new development, Rolant Prys will once more take on the character of prison warden Ned. Meanwhile, the actor Glyn Prichard from ‘Doctor Who’ is set to reappear as the vulnerable inmate Peter. Lastly, Iwan Garmon will make a return as Barry’s brother Dale.
The series “Bariau” is crafted by Ciron Gruffydd and helmed by director Griff Rowland, who has previously worked on episodes of “Holby City,” “EastEnders,” “Hollyoaks,” and “Coronation Street.
In the previous year, the show garnered favorable critiques, as viewers labeled it “exceptional” and commended its grim atmosphere and insightful exploration of the imperfections within the criminal justice system.
Season 2 of the show “Bariau” is set to debut on S4C on the 13th of April. Additionally, viewers can stream the entire season on both BBC iPlayer and S4C Clic.
