Sean Bean’s highly-anticipated new BBC crime drama finally confirms release date
New Sean Bean crime drama This City Is Ours has finally confirmed a release date.
The upcoming Liverpool-based series revolves around a character, Michael Kavanagh (played by James Nelson-Joyce), deeply entrenched in the criminal underworld, who starts to fantasize about an alternate lifestyle for himself.
Following an initial glance at the project back in the early part of the year, it’s now been disclosed that the series will make its debut on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday, March 23rd, airing at 9pm (according to Radio Times)).
The series we’re discussing is called “The Last Kingdom,” written by Stephen Butchard. It centers around the character Michael, who has been immersed in criminal organizations throughout his life, serving under the leadership of his friend and boss, Ronnie Phelan, portrayed by Bean.
However, “when Ronnie begins to hint at retirement, Michael too begins to imagine another life”.
For the very first time, Michael finds himself smitten. It’s a new experience for him, one that transcends his everyday existence. He now perceives a horizon beyond the present moment – a future with potential gains and potential losses, all associated with Diana.
The series will delve into the romantic story between Michael and Diana, set amidst the breakdown of Michael’s criminal empire. It will additionally explore Jamie’s struggle, Ronnie’s son, as he fights alongside Michael for power and the throne.
The tale revolves around family dynamics, with affection overshadowed by desire for power, arrogance, and avarice. The summary also implies that this narrative explores power – the lengths people go to obtain and maintain it.
In the show “Empire of Light,” Hannah Onslow will play the character Diana Williams, who becomes a love interest. The series also features Saoirse-Monica Jackson from “Derry Girls,” Laura Aikman known for her work in “Gavin & Stacey,” Jack McMullen from “Hijack,” and Kevin Harvey, who has acted in “Time.
Previously discussing the project, Nelson-Joyce expressed: “I feel incredibly privileged to be involved in such an intriguing production. Reading the initial episode made me realize immediately that I needed to delve into this captivating tale of crime, loyalty, and most importantly, love.
This City Is Ours will premiere on Sunday, March 23 at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
