Eminem Joins Bid Group for a WNBA Team in Detroit

Eminem supports the idea of having a Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) team in his hometown, Detroit. He has joined forces with other investors to put forth a proposal for bringing the league to their city.

According to reports from Sportico, there are several influential sports figures in Detroit who are keen on the city joining the WNBA. This group includes prominent businessmen and athletes within the sports industry. The details of a potential expansion have not been disclosed yet, but it’s said that other parties are considering investing around nine-figure sums.

The Detroit Pistons and their owner Tom Gores are leading a consortium of bidders, which also includes owners of the city’s hockey team (Red Wings), baseball team (Tigers), football team (Lions), as well as former NBA players Grant Hill and Chris Webber, Lions quarterback Jared Goff, General Motors CEO Mary Barra, and others. In simpler terms, a diverse group that includes sports team owners, former athletes, and business leaders is bidding for the Detroit Pistons, with Tom Gores playing a significant role in leading this group.

Neither Eminem’s nor the Pistons’ reps have released statements.

From a passionate fan’s perspective, as Sportico highlights, the WNBA’s recent expansion into Toronto, San Francisco, and Portland is supported by NBA owners. The latest bidding process (which concluded in January) follows suit. Interestingly, more than ten cities presented proposals before the cut-off date, with Austin, Charlotte, Cleveland, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Kansas City, Nashville, and Philadelphia all in contention.

If Detroit receives a WNBA team, it would share Little Caesars Arena as its venue with the Pistons and Red Wings.
