Jessica Simpson Fans Worry Over ‘Slurring’ in New Video
Fans have been expressing concerns that Jessica Simpson seemed to be speaking unclear or slurred in her recent video.
44-year-old singer was en route to the 2025 South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, and posted a video on Instagram while traveling to Enterprise to pick up a rental vehicle.
Hello everyone, that’s Jessica Simpson speaking! We’ve just touched down in Austin, Texas. As we speak, I’m patiently waiting my turn at Enterprise to rent a vehicle – no ads here, just getting myself a rental car!
The artist known for “With You” – having just declared her separation from spouse Eric Johnson – donned an eye-catching blue synthetic fur coat over a leopard-patterned ensemble. She added to the look with a big silver cross necklace, a silver belt, and sunglasses.
Several remarks in the comments focused on her speech pattern, with a spectator questioning: “Why does she speak so slowly or unclear?
A different user jokingly mentioned, “I guess someone was enjoying a drink on the flight!”, but that’s surprising since Simpson has been sober for seven years.
‘Remember in Newlyweds when she spoke like a normal girl?’ someone else asked.
She’s speaking somewhat slowly, but don’t you think it was quite brazen when she casually mentioned cutting in line at the end? That sure seems like an example of the perceived entitlement some celebrities might have!
‘Girlfriend hit the sauce on the flight,’ another fan chimed in.
Someone commented, “I initially believed that character was Jennifer Coolidge in White Lotus,” referring to the quirky portrayal of Tanya McQuoid by Coolidge.
In the previous month, Simpson revealed to The Cut that being sober has enabled her to be more truthful and to develop a greater sense of comfort within herself.
In about 2016, 2017, I was crafting music right here in Los Angeles alongside some top chart-toppers. There are tunes from that era I didn’t publish as they didn’t align with my personal style or identity.
Each time I put pen to paper, I felt a hint of self-doubt creeping in. It was intense, and it was made even more overwhelming because I was under the influence of alcohol then,” she clarified.
However, when I stopped drinking alcohol, my fears seemed to gradually fade away. They simply disappeared. Moreover, it became significantly simpler for me to tap into my artistic self.

In a conversation, the actress from “The Dukes of Hazzard” shared that during her drinking periods, she believed herself to be trendy and could come up with uncommon, unexpected rhyming words. However, upon reflection, she admitted that she often overanalyzed things when under the influence.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share that last year, amidst the buzz surrounding her fiery return with the track “Leave,” which hints at past marital issues with Eric, Jessica firmly refuted rumors suggesting a resurgence of alcohol consumption in her life.
She addressed a commentator speculating about her sobriety underneath a sweet post for her son Ace.
Following a conversation about their mutual enjoyment of instant scratch-off lottery games, a follower criticized her by commenting, “Cease your alcohol consumption!”, in a more polite and understandable manner.
The former singer, now businesswoman, promptly replied, confirming that she’s been living an alcohol-free life since October 2017.
She shared that she hasn’t touched alcohol since October 2017, a decision she considers the best one she’s ever made not just for herself but also for her family.
I appreciate your worry, but I feel misunderstood. Regardless, I’m sending you love.
In the year 2022, the celebrity encountered similar apprehensions from her audience due to a peculiar video in which her speech seemed unclear.

I, myself, have been openly addressing those who criticize me, clarifying that I’ve remained abstinent from alcohol for a good five years now. I also shared my strategy for filtering out the harmful chatter of negative remarks and evaluations.
2023 saw Simpson sharing a strikingly transformed image on her Instagram Stories, a snapshot captured during her struggle with addiction.
The actress revealed in her memoir Open Book that she went sober in 2017.
In an undesirable photograph, the stunning brunette appears quite different from her typical image, donning a pink jogging suit and seated in a dimly lit space.
On November 1, 2017, at dawn, this individual appears as a barely recognizable version of me.
In my journey, I found myself uncovering layers of self-understanding and growth. Right then and there, I decided it was time for me to reclaim my inner radiance, triumph over the internal struggle within me for self-worth, and face the world with a newfound clarity that would pierce through everything.
To accomplish this task, I realized that abstaining from alcohol was essential for me. Alcohol seemed to keep me stuck in one thought pattern, and frankly, I was drained. I desired to experience the pain so I could wear it as a symbol of endurance.
Later on, she commented, “It wasn’t the drinking that was the problem; it was me. I didn’t value myself. I didn’t acknowledge my own strength. But today, I do.
In my own words, as an ardent admirer, I’d say: In her heart-wrenching memoir, Open Book, she bravely shared her journey towards sobriety. She confessed, “I was self-destructing with every sip of alcohol and pill.” The act of quitting alcohol, for her, wasn’t difficult. It was the bottle that had infuriated me. How it enabled me to remain comfortable and insensate.
Therapy was not as easy: ‘With work, I allowed myself to feel the traumas I’d been through.’
Back in January, the woman from Texas publicly declared her divorce from her husband Eric, whom she shares three kids with. They had tied the knot in 2014 but parted ways last year.

They are parents to daughter Maxwell, 12, son Ace, 11, and daughter Birdie, five.
The artist is currently developing a grittier, revenge-themed record in collaboration with JD McPherson, who is a 47-year-old American musician and guitarist hailing from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, recognized for his vintage style of music.
Simpson is making a return to music with her latest song titled “Leave,” which seems to hint at Johnson leaving her – however, neither have revealed the specific reasons for their divorce after a ten-year marriage.
The words express a sentiment where a partner is asked to depart, and they convey: ‘Our relationship was enchanting, but now it’s become sorrowful. The affection you showed me has turned sour for her, just like the well that once quenched your thirst no longer has any water left.’
1. Your shortcoming left me feeling isolated.
2. Our union was an unhealthy, strained partnership.
3. Did you treat her the same way as you treated me?
4. She knelt before him (in a metaphorical or literal sense).
5. She is everything I am not.
On March 21st, her latest EP titled “Nashville Canyon” will hit the shelves. Another segment of “Nashville Canyon” is scheduled for release during the early summer season of 2025.
From the start of her career in 1999, with her first album Sweet Kisses, Simpson has put out a total of seven studio albums during her time as a musician.
