Keanu Reeves’ John Wick Return in Doubt
There’s good and bad news for fans of the popular film franchise John Wick.
It’s been confirmed that a fifth film in the series of neo-noir action thrillers will be produced by Lionsgate, yet it remains uncertain if leading actor Keanu Reeves will reprise his role as the cherished assassin.
In reality, Reeves himself has expressed some uncertainty about reprising his role in a fourth installment due to his character seemingly meeting his end in John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023).
However, this hasn’t deterred the film company from capitalizing on the financial success of the John Wick franchise by continuing to create new narratives within its universe.
In simple terms, Jenefer Brown, who holds a high position at Lionsgate as EVP and Head of Global Products & Experiences, shared with Comicbook.com about the future of their franchise. She stated that the world associated with this franchise will keep expanding in amazing manners. Following this, they are preparing to launch their first spin-off movie titled ‘Ballerina’. She is eagerly looking forward to sharing it globally.
She mentioned, “Absolutely, we’ve made public that we’re developing the fifth installment of the John Wick series. I believe there will be additional spin-offs and possibly a TV show, even a video game in the future.

When asked if Reeves might reappear in the main John Wick movie again, she said, ‘We’ve mentioned that we’re creating a fifth installment of the John Wick series… It remains uncertain whether [John Wick] is alive or not. Everyone is eagerly waiting to discover the truth.’
In a recent interview, the actor seemed to express no intentions of appearing in another John Wick movie, hinting at Wick’s potential death in the last installment while promoting an upcoming spin-off featuring Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro.
He mentioned to Extra TV about a potential fifth movie in late February that there’s a variation of it titled Ballerina, which is set within the John Wick universe, and John Wick himself makes a brief cameo. Apart from that, he said he doesn’t know much more about it.
When inquired about taking on further roles, he responded with a grin, saying, “Well, the character met his end. He perished in John Wick: Chapter 4.
He admitted that he understands how often Hollywood revives famous characters, yet clarified, ‘At this moment, there is no scheme in place for me to come back.’
In this film series, Reeves embodies the character of John Wick, an ex-assassin who has gained an unrivaled notoriety within the criminal underworld. Despite trying to escape that lifestyle, he is unwillingly drawn back into a world of violence.
Under the direction of Chad Stahelski, with a screenplay by Derek Kolstad, the initial movie featured performances by Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, and Willem Dafoe.
Chad Stahelski directed the first movie from a script written by Derek Kolstad. The cast included Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, and Willem Dafoe.
Or: As Chad Stahelski was at the helm with a script by Derek Kolstad, the original film boasted Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, and Willem Dafoe in its cast.
The movie ended up being a massive global success, earning approximately $86 million while only costing between $20 and $30 million to produce.

Three years on, I’ve joined forces once more with Stahelski and Kolstad for the sequel. The talented trio of Moynahan, Leguizamo, and McShane return, alongside fresh faces such as Common, Fishburne, Rose, Reddick, Stormare, and Nero.
2017’s John Wick: Chapter 2 was nothing short of a blockbuster hit for me! It hauled in an impressive $171.5 million at the box office, more than quadrupling its production cost of around $40 million. I simply can’t get enough of Keanu Reeves‘ action-packed performances as John Wick!
For the third installment of John Wick, titled John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019), Stahelski once again took on the director’s role, but with a screenplay penned by Kolstad, Shay Hatten, Chris Collins, and Marc Abrams. This time around, the film also introduced several new faces to the cast, including Halle Berry, Mark Dacascos, Anjelica Huston, and Asia Kate Dillon.

In line with the earnings pattern of its predecessors, the third chapter surpassed the financial success of the first two movies significantly, raking in an impressive $327.3 million while only requiring a production budget of $75 million.
In Chapter 4, Reeves welcomed back familiar faces like Ian McShane (as Winston), the previously departed Lance Reddick (in the role of Charon), and Laurence Fishburne reprising his character, the Bowery King.
The film kept raking in money at the box office, eventually earning an astounding $440.1 million. Remarkably, it managed this feat while having an initial budget of approximately $100 million.
The movie titled “From The World Of John Wick: Ballerina” is set to debut in cinemas on June 6, and this event occurs while the storylines of the third film are unfolding.
