The Musical Maestro is pausing his performances to prioritize something beyond his tunes – his wellbeing.
Grammy winner Billy Joel revealed on Tuesday that he’ll be delaying his current tour for a period of four months due to a health issue. In an update shared via Instagram, the renowned singer-songwriter behind hits like “Piano Man” and “Vienna” explained that taking some time off from performing would give him the opportunity to recuperate following a recent operation and to receive physical therapy under the care of his medical team.
“Joel is expected to make a full recovery,” the statement added.
Joel temporarily halts his tour, mere weeks following his February 22nd show at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. While performing “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me,” he had a fall but swiftly regained his composure. The connection between this occurrence and today’s announcement remains uncertain. The statement did not provide further insights regarding the singer’s health status.

Regarding Joel, set to share the stage with Stevie Nicks this coming Friday at SoFi Stadium, let’s delve into the source of ‘Piano Man’s’ inspiration, his goodbyes tours, and the ’70s hit he now views as ‘melancholic.’
Fans must hold their excitement until July 5, when the 75-year-old artist takes the stage at Pittsburgh’s Acrisure Stadium for his next tour performance. However, rest assured, the pause in touring is justified.
“While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first,” he said.
5-time Grammy Award winner unveiled plans for a stadium tour in September, disclosing that Sting and Stevie Nicks would share the spotlight on certain dates. Prior to announcing his tour, Joel concluded an impressive 10-year run of shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden in July, which was part of his longstanding residency.
In 2023, The Times interviewed Joel who, despite being in his 70s, expressed eagerness for additional performance chances, whether following a tour or residency. Contrary to popular farewell tours, he voiced his dislike for them at that time.

Legendary heavy metal musician Ozzy Osbourne announces the date for what will be his last performance, marking a reunion of the original Black Sabbath members after an absence of 20 years.
He expressed his distaste for exploiting such situations: “Here’s how I put it to advantage: ‘I’ll hint at it ending, and then I’ll rake in the profits,'” he said. “I’ve noticed countless bands announce their final tours only to remain active.
Amid his recovery, Joel assures fans he isn’t going anywhere, yet.
As a passionate movie enthusiast, I eagerly anticipate returning to the spotlight to share the delight of live tunes with all of you incredible audience members. Your patience is greatly appreciated.
More information about the rescheduled shows can be found on Joel’s website.
