Taxi Stars Reunite After 47 Years: You Won’t Believe Who Showed Up!
47 years after the debut of the sitcom Taxi in the 1970s and 80s, its original cast graced the red carpet at the Roundabout Theatre Company’s 2025 Gala on a Monday evening.
The glamorous event celebrating many famous faces was organized as a tribute to the esteemed Danny DeVito, a legendary actor known for his role in Taxi, who turned 80 this year. This distinguished gentleman was being presented with the Jason Robards Award for Outstanding Achievement in Theatre.
Indeed, Danny was in top shape, standing with his fellow cast members from Taxi – Christopher Lloyd, Carol Kane, Danny DeVito, Tony Danza, Marilu Henner, and Judd Hirsch – at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York.
Additionally, the show’s co-creator, James L. Brooks, was there too, beaming with pride as he stood among the cast for a photo.
Danny was unable to hide his grin as he struck several amusing poses alongside his friends, and in one of the pictures, he’s seen playfully messing around with Tony Danza, who is 73 years old, on the red carpet.
The TV show “Taxi” first aired on ABC from September 12, 1978, until May 6, 1982, and then moved to NBC, where it continued airing from September 30, 1982, up until June 15, 1983.

A show from that time focused on workers at a taxi firm based in New York City during the late ’70s and early ’80s, propelling each actor to fame.
In this role, Danny played the primary villain, the cunning dispatcher named Louie De Palma, who often ruled over the dispatch office situated within the garage. He regularly demeaned and irritated the drivers with his remarks.
Judd portrayed Alex Reiger, the sensible taxi driver who everyone at the Sunshine Cab Company relies upon, and he’s the unique one among them who regards his profession as a career, rather than a short-term job that many others do.
In a different phrasing, the character portrayed by Tony was that of a former boxer and Vietnam veteran named Tony Banta. After he lost his boxing license, he began working at Sunshine Cab.
In the initial season, Christopher took on the role of Reverend Jim Ignatowski, initially appearing as a guest actor. However, his character became a regular cast member for the remaining five seasons of the series.
In 1982 and 1983, I was fortunate enough to take home two consecutive Emmy Awards for my portrayal of a character that has since become legendary in the world of television. This role has solidified my place among the all-time greats on the small screen.
On the show, Carol portrayed Simka Dahblitz-Gravas, a character who ended up marrying Latka, played by Andy Kaufman.
While Marilu portrayed single mother Elaine Nardo who aspired to be an artist.

The series won 18 Emmy Awards, including three for Outstanding Comedy Series.
The show was created by James L. Brooks, Stan Daniels, David Davis, and Ed. Weinberger.
All of them are trying to become something better as they chase the American dream.
Notable actors who made special appearances were Ruth Gordon, Eileen Brennan, Penny Marshall, Dr. Joyce Brothers, Ted Danson, and Rhea Perlman.
Tom Selleck and Mandy Patinkin had memorable guest appearances.

In one episode, Martin Short played a TV network executive.
While Tom Hanks portrayed Reverend Jim’s college roommate in the flashback episode.
Additionally, at the gala on Monday, other notable figures making an appearance were Ben Stiller and his spouse Christine Taylor.
Meanwhile, Michael Kors and Lance LePere cut dapper figures as they posed on the red carpet.
