Netflix’s new crime comedy is no mistake – swiftly stealing a top spot on their streaming charts.
Netflix has a strong collection of funny crime shows, mixing witty humor with intriguing mysteries. The platform actually launched with a crime comedy – Lilyhammer (2012–2014) – and has continued to produce popular titles in the genre, including the two-season series A Man on the Inside (2024–), along with Sneaky Pete (2015–2019) and Dead to Me (2019–2022), which both ran for three seasons. But it’s their latest crime comedy that’s recently become a big hit with viewers.
The new crime comedy, Big Mistakes, quickly rose to the top of Netflix’s most-watched shows. Created by Dan Levy and Rachel Sennott, the series stars Levy – known for his four Emmy wins on Schitt’s Creek – and Taylor Ortega as a pair of hapless siblings. They’re blackmailed into working for criminals and become the most chaotic, incompetent duo in the world of organized crime.
Just one day after premiering, Big Mistakes has climbed to the No. 4 spot on Netflix’s Top 10 list in the U.S. as of April 10th. It’s currently behind Trust Me: The False Prophet at number one, as well as Danny Go! and Love on the Spectrum, but ahead of shows like XO, Kitty, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, The Predator of Seville, Virgin River, Beauty in Black, and Bloodhounds.
Besides Dan Levy, who also oversees the show, the cast of Big Mistakes features Emmy and Oscar-winning actress Laurie Metcalf (known for Roseanne and Lady Bird), along with Jack Innanen, Boran Kuzum, and Abby Quinn. Elizabeth Perkins, a three-time Emmy nominee (Weeds), Jacob Gutierrez, Joe Barbara, Josh Fadem, and Mark Ivanir will appear in supporting roles.
The new series Big Mistakes is a hit, quickly becoming one of the most-watched shows on Netflix and earning high praise from critics. It currently has a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with reviewers highlighting its darkly funny tone, fast-paced energy, and the strong connection between the actors. Many are impressed with Dan Levy’s performance, showcasing his talents beyond his role in Schitt’s Creek. Viewers are finding it incredibly captivating and hard to stop watching.
The finale of Big Mistakes suggests the story isn’t over, and given the show’s popularity and positive reviews, it’s likely to be renewed for a second season soon.
